Whether you’re a golfing professional or just a fan of watching great sport, you won’t want to miss the upcoming SMBC Singapore Open, which returns to Sentosa Golf Club from 18 to 21 January this year. With international stars and exciting golf-themed activities on the program, here’s what to expect at the tournament everyone is talking about.
Live golf action
Spain’s Sergio Garcia, who won the 2017 US Masters, former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen from South Africa, and PGA Tour winner Pat Perez will star in the four-day event, along with the leading players from both the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour Organisation, such as Asian Tour winner Gavin Green and golfing prodigy turned prolific winner, Ryo Ishikawa.
Fun games with exciting prizes
Apart from the exciting golf action on course, enjoy your time at the Fan Village located behind the 18th green, where you can look forward to a variety of interactive golf-themed activities.
One thing you definitely want to try is the “Chip in for Arc” event at the Practice Green at The Range @ New Tanjong. Each $5 donation entitles you to a set of three golf balls, and you’ll need to try to land them as near to the three different holes as possible. Participants will compete daily from Thursday to Saturday, all in the hope of securing a spot in the top 10 for Sunday’s chip-off finale. Those with the lowest combined total distance will be used for qualification for the chip-off finale. The winner gets a two-night stay at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, along with a round of golf for four people at Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club, Sabah, while other runner-up prizes include Adidas golf shoes and a Bushnell GPS watch.
Then there’s the must-see Beat the Pro competition, in which 10 pre-selected amateurs will attempt to hit their ball closer to the hole than the pros, while the tournament is ongoing and live on television. It’ll take place over the first two rounds of the tournament on 18 and 19 January, with the winners of the challenge bringing home great prizes from the official tournament merchandise and partners.
