On top of sun spots caused by harmful UV rays, Singapore’s hot and humid climate is a mighty trigger for excessive sebum production and acne. We’ve rounded up four aesthetic treatments to tackle unsightly pigmentation and post-inflammation spots while brightening the skin.
Solution 1: Intense Glow Programme, from $220 per session
How it works:
Combining two innovative technologies, the patented MacPeel IPL technology and LED light therapy, EstheClinic’s Intense Glow Programme is the ultimate remedy for skin damage caused by intense sun exposure. The best part? There’s no downtime required for this pain-free treatment!
The IPL technology is first used to lighten dark spots on the skin’s surface while tightening pores for a smoother, lighter overall skin tone. The second treatment uses LED light therapy to direct therapeutic red and yellow light to painlessly stimulate skin repair and collagen production. The procedure also helps to heal and firm up dry, saggy skin skin from the inside. You’ll see improvements in skin tone and texture after just one session!
Solution 2: Starwalker Laser, from $1,200 per session
How it works:
Offered at Aesthetic & Reconstructive Centre, the StarWalker laser comes with two wavelengths (1064 nm and 532 nm), making it ideal for treating a wide variety of conditions including pigmentation, scars and sun spots. It can also be used to remove unwanted tattoos! Even if you don’t have any of these issues, your skin will still benefit from an overall facial rejuvenation, since the laser energy stimulates collagen production.
This advanced Q-switched laser system delivers energy in short pulses – approximately a million times faster than older laser technologies. The laser energy is delivered quickly and in short bursts, enhancing your safety and reducing any discomfort.
Each session can be completed within an hour, including the prior application of a numbing cream for 30 minutes. While downtime is minimal, you can expect a temporary darkening of pigmented spots for the next 48 hours. For rejuvenation modes, expect redness for the next 24 hours, or for up to three days if a stronger ablative mode is used.
Solution 3: Cutera Limelight Facial, $380 per session
How it works:
Also known as the “photofacial”, the Limelight facial at W Skin & Laser is a gentle yet effective Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment for common skin issues on the face, neck and décolleté: acne, large pores, pigmentation, sun spots and broken capillaries (telangiectasia). Also used to improve overall skin tone, the facial takes only 20 minutes, making it a popular lunchtime treatment for busy executives.
IPL technology uses filtered, non-coherent light to destroy pigment cells and broken capillaries. With each pulse of light, you’ll feel a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Right after the treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. This typically lasts anything from a few hours to a day or two. Makeup can be applied to cover the redness. Thereafter, the darkened spots will flake off and fade away. While it typically takes one to three treatments to see optimal results, additional sessions may be recommended for excessively sun-damaged skin.
Solution 4: Art Cryollift Correct Radiance Therapy, $270 per session
How it works:
Targeted at dull complexions, this signature facial at medispa ART by Verita treats pigmentation at various levels. Over time, you can look forward to fewer dark spots, a more even skin tone and a generally brighter complexion.
After cleansing and toning the skin, a brightening peel is applied. Formulated with phytic and citric acids, which are known to suppress melanin production, the peel helps to lighten age spots, blemishes and melasma while improving skin tone. Cryotherapy is then used to apply a brightening serum that contains vitamin C and other active ingredients. A special device applied directly to the skin cools it to a stable minus 15 degrees Celsius, without causing any discomfort. This helps the skin to better absorb the active ingredients, thus maximising the brightening effect.
After a gentle face massage, a rejuvenating hyaluronic acid mask is applied for an immediately clearer and more radiant complexion.
