How can curtains or blinds transform a room?
Curtains and blinds can be used to add style and character to a room, especially when selected to complement the room’s existing decor. They have the potential to create a warm and cosy atmosphere, with different types of curtains and blinds offering a range of textures, patterns and colours that can be used to create a focal point or complement the existing colour scheme.
With the right selection, curtains and blinds can transform a room, adding a touch of personality and enhancing the overall look and feel of the space.
Share one hot tip for anyone choosing blinds or curtains in Singapore
When choosing curtains or blinds for your home, it’s important to think about both their functionality and aesthetic appeal. The type of fabric you choose can have an impact on the amount of natural light and privacy in your space. If you want a brighter and more open atmosphere, go for curtains or blinds in neutral colours like beige or white.
On the other hand, if you require greater privacy and light control in areas such as bedrooms, consider black-out curtains to block out unwanted light and create a darker environment.
What soft furnishing trends are you seeing this year?
There’s a trend towards incorporating nature-inspired elements into home décor, as homeowners seek to create a more relaxing and cosy atmosphere. One way this is being achieved is through the use of textured and natural fabrics such as cotton and linen for curtains and blinds. These earthy tones are becoming popular as they bring a sense of nature into the home.
Additionally, the ripple fold style, also known as s-fold, is gaining popularity among homeowners. This style of curtain creates a continuous wave pattern throughout the room, adding to the overall aesthetic of the space.

Marshmalloh – Natalie Loh
What can our readers expect from your store?
We are a lifestyle start-up inspired by travels, architecture and love. Being avid explorers, we wanted something tangible to hold on to, something that would evoke memories of a past trip or dream up fantasies of an upcoming adventure.
With so many cushions in Singapore to choose from, we wanted to cut through the noise and offer something different. The everyday pillows we have on our sofas are more than just decorative pieces, they are canvasses that inspire wanderlust.
So, at Marshmalloh you can expect a lovingly curated selection of throw pillows each season. They feature different fabrics, colours, textures and fun little details like tassels and pom poms on cushion covers too!
Why are soft furnishings so important for the home?
Because they’re so modular and versatile! You can use decorative cushion covers to transform your fabric sofas and living room to cater to different seasons, occasions and moods.
In-laws coming over for a visit? Line your sofa with classic and neutral pieces. Hosting a Friday soiree with your BFFs? Bring out the avant-garde prints to really get into the partay mood.
What trends are you seeing with cushions in Singapore?
Our customers are becoming more sophisticated. They’re not just looking for pretty pieces, but they want soft furnishings that tell a story – about who they are, and how their tastes are evolving.
This might sound really nerdy, but we think throw pillows are like Instagram posts brought to life in three-dimensional form!
What tips do you have for readers?
When it comes to decorative throw pillows, there’s no such thing as an end product or a final look. It’s an ongoing journey of experimentation, creativity and expressing yourself.
Buying cushions in Singapore should be fun. Keep trying out different combinations of sizes, colours, patterns and styles of cushion covers – and enjoy the process!

How can soft furnishings change a room?
Using soft furnishings can be a simple but effective way to heighten or change up a room’s look. Classic key furniture pieces in a home, such as a fabric sofa or bed, can be immediately lifted by beautiful upholstery, or striking cushions (our range of cushions in Singapore is certainly unique). For key furniture pieces, simple but beautiful linen upholstery can create a luxe look without distracting from the beauty of the piece.
What are your hot tips or trends for upholstery in Singapore?
Upholstering a headboard is such a great and creative way to create a focal point in a bedroom and doesn’t have to break the bank. Also, don’t always assume that larger pieces such as a sofa armchair have to have everything else fit around them style-wise. By custom-making a piece, including choosing your bespoke upholstery, you can work these larger pieces into an already styled room, no problem.
What colour or texture trends are you seeing for 2024?
Soft whites and greys continue to dominate colour preferences in 2023 with our customers who are keen to create a calm, comfy and chilled-out space for people to relax in at home. Warmer earthy tones are also favoured, with natural fibres continuing to be a key choice.
