Send a Christmas gift overseas with zero fees

22nd December 2021 by Rebecca Bisset 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/remit-money-for-christmas-gift-overseas-no-fees/

Visiting your family and friends overseas may still not be ideal or even possible this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t let them know you love them in other ways.  Let DBS Remit be your Santa – to send magic, joy and hope to those you love.  Whether it’s to buy a festive Christmas dinner or a special present – it will help make it a Merry Christmas for them!

dbs remit sending money

There are zero fees, the money is deposited into the recipient’s bank account on the same day, and the network is nearly as good as Santa’s – DBS Remit covers more than 50+ destinations. All you need is a DBS account and the DBS digibank app, the very user-friendly app on your mobile, and your money is good to go in just three easy steps.

Expat Living reader Anna Murphy has been a lifelong DBS customer and early-adaptor of DBS Remit for business and personal finances. We asked Anna how it has helped her.

How long have you been remitting money overseas?

Thirty years or maybe longer, for business and personal matters like paying mortgages, school fees, sending money to my children who were studying in the U.S.

How do you decide what platform to use to remit money overseas?

Best fees and exchange rates – this can be huge for businesses like ours, transferring large sums of money for equipment purchases, shipping and so on. Timeliness and convenience also counts for a lot. DBS Remit lets me transact on the spot for time-sensitive transactions, for example, Letter of Credit payments, family emergencies and so on.

What are the key benefits of using DBS Remit? And what sets them apart from the rest?

So easy to use! There is no turning back for anyone who tries it. We don’t use any other bank for remits. No more passwords or complicated processes to remember, and I can do it on my phone like a ninja. I don’t pay any fees, and what’s not to love about free banking? I can send money almost anywhere, and I don’t have to think twice about it.

Walk us through the process of you transferring money overseas with DBS Remit. Were you able to do it at your convenience on the DBS digibank app?

Literally takes me three steps on the app: tap Overseas Transfer, enter the amount and the recipient, review and send. I can use the app anywhere, anytime. As long as I have the app on my phone, moving money is the least of my worries, and especially handy if I wake up in the middle of the night in a panic about a forgotten bill, or your child has an accident and you need to get money to them fast.

How many countries have you remitted to with DBS Remit?

UK, USA, Australia, India, South Korea, any bank account or business anywhere that accepts direct remits as payment.

How long does it take for your transfer to be sent?

10 minutes or less. Earlier this year, my son was stranded at an airport in the UK because he did not have enough money for the pre-departure Covid test. It cost over GBP 350 and his flight to London was already boarding. He was panicking, as was his father, but using DBS Remit a very cool mother managed to immediately send him the money. He received the transfer in time to do the test and catch the flight. In another instance, my daughter living in New York found a bleeding stray cat at her front door. I transferred USD 700 so she could take the cat to the all-night vet. She received the money in her bank account in minutes as she sat on the steps where she found the cat.

With DBS Remit, you can now perform same day transfers to selected markets within the cut-off times.

Have you encountered any hidden fees and charges with DBS Remit?

Never. Send the money and forget about it.

Would you recommend DBS Remit to other Expats alike?

Absolutely. Thank me later!

We think that’s a pretty good testimonial!
