We put Bugaboo’s new baby cot to the test!

8th October 2021 by Louisa Lim 3 Min Read

Listen up, parents! When was the last time you ended up with a ‘portable’ baby cot that’s more trouble than it’s worth? Well, it’s time to make a change, and not just because you’re working from home with a restless bubba kicking up a fuss inside a hefty, awkward contraption.

Enter the Stardust, a new portable cot by Dutch stroller giant Bugaboo. Combining unique aerospace technology – yes, you read right – and smart design, the Bugaboo Stardust comes in a premium carry bag and offers parents an all-in-one, ultra-comfortable cot that can be used at home or on the go. Wherever you are, it requires no extra assembly, no special techniques – it simply pops up and is ready to go in 1 second.

The secret, you see, is in the baby cot’s folding mechanism. Inspired by satellite solar panels and completely idiot-proof, the Stardust is able to fold in three seconds and unfold faster than you can say “Where in the universe is baby daddy?” – together with its built-in, multi-layered mattress. It’s also only 6.9 kilograms so you’re less likely to wind up seeing your physio.

To see if the Bugaboo Stardust truly lives up to its hype, we got a family of five from France living in Singapore to try it out. Here’s what busy production and events manager Alice Billy and her littlest one Thelma think after spending a week with the baby cot.

Bugaboo Stardust

Hello Alice! Tell us a bit about your family.

We’ve been in Singapore for the past seven years, and all our three children were born here. June is five years old, Gustave will turn four next month and our little one, Thelma, is three months old. She is growing fast with the help of her brother and sister.

What does your typical day look like?

Both my husband and I have been working from home since COVID. During our working hours from 9am to 6pm, we occupy two bedrooms converted into offices. While it has been great to be able to stay at home with Thelma since she was born, the logistics part has gotten more complex, with a difficult daily exercise of converting our bedrooms into offices. This is where the Stardust has been really helpful, as we’ve been able to bring it around the house and use it for different purposes!

What do you use Bugaboo Stardust for?

The Stardust occupies a space in our living room. We use it as a playpen and it allows Thelma to play safely with her siblings in the living room (we love the zip-in bassinet – it’s easier to interact with her because there’s no need to bend over constantly!). During her daily 30 minute nap time, however, we’ll move it over to one of the bedrooms. We also like bringing the Stardust down by the pool, or to dinner parties at our friend’s place! Thelma can rest and sleep while we go about our lives –  we love it for its portability!

How has it helped?

The Bugaboo Stardust is a three-in-one solution: a bed for baby when we are working from home, a playpen and a portable cot for sleepover. I like it when my baby is very comfortable in her own bed. I’m even considering bringing it for our upcoming trip in France. How could we live without it now? Impossible!

What do you like most about this baby cot?

It’s easy to set up, fold and store. It’s also small and light, and even comes with a premium Velcro closing bag, making it very convenient to bring everywhere. The big plus is the mattress. It’s very comfortable for the baby!

How does it compare to other portable cots?

All the foldable beds we had previously were very heavy and a nightmare to set up. The Bugaboo Stardust is much more convenient, and Thelma has had great sleeps in it because of the mattress. It’s stylish too – that’s very important for me!

The Bugaboo Stardust is available in two colourways – the classic Black and Grey Mélange and is priced at SGD419. You can find the Bugaboo Stardust at First Few Years, Mothercare, Motherswork, Bugaboo Official Flagship store on Shopee and Bugaboo Official Flagship Store on Lazada.
