Online jewellery shopping in Singapore: The EL girls’ top picks of rings, bangles and more from Lustre Jewellery

Updated on 18th January 2017 by Catherine Willingham |

On the lookout for some gorgeous, sparkling jewellery to add to your ever-growing collection of bling? If you’re after something unique and one-of-a-kind (rather than another mass-market buy from the high street), our latest shopping find will be right up your alley.

Presenting Lustre Jewellery, a fabulous Singapore-based brand that specialises in affordable semi-precious jewellery. Founded by Bombay-born expat Anaita Thakkar, the label prides itself in creating one-off pieces designed to capture the beauty of the shape, size, cut and colour of the stones used, whether it’s mystical, colour-shifting labradorite or enchanting green onyx. Best of all, most of the pieces cost less than $250 – a steal for the craftmanship poured into them.

To keep prices down without compromising on quality, Thakkar takes it upon herself to do most of the designing and sourcing. She picks some of the finest semi-precious stones from India before passing them on to ateliers around the world – including Turkey, Sri Lanka and Thailand – to work on the final setting according to her specifications. Most of the pieces are set in sterling silver, while others might be gold-plated silver or a brass with silver alloy. All the materials used in each piece are clearly stated in the website, making it a piece of cake to find what you like best.

Want to see what pretty pieces the EL girls are currently eyeing from Lustre’s online store? Read on for our personal picks…

A great personalised present for your man?
Naturally, everything comes in a delightful box

‘The mother of pearl oval earrings are a classic style, versatile enough to wear out for dinner or even to a black tie event. I would pair them with a black cheongsam for an elegant look, adding a simple sparkle to the ears, as it’s difficult to wear a necklace with a high-neck style cheongsam dress. The simple, no-fuss design suits my personal approach, and adds just a hint of bling to even the simplest outfit.’ – Katie Roberts, Life & Family Editor

‘I always try to look understated but find myself drawn to bright colours. Paradox? Probably, but that’s why I really like this simple yet sassy multi-gemstone bangle. The slender bracelet won’t drown my tiny wrists, and the varied and vibrant gems could add ‘subtle’ sparkle to a wide selection of outfits – it’s definitely wardrobe-friendly. I also think the intricate, slightly rough-cut finish gives it an attractive one-of-a-kind quality.’ – Jade Botta, Regional Market Research & Communications Manager

‘I was immediately drawn to the amethyst, citrine and blue sapphire flower circle earrings. If you’re a believer in the power of gems, the metaphysical pairing of citrine, amethyst and blue sapphire gives the wearer a power punch of happiness and healing properties. Lustre’s unique setting combines all three to form one eye-catching flower ball that can be worn with formal attire. These earrings would also be perfect for cocktail hour, as amethyst is rumoured to protect the wearer from intoxication.’ – Michelle Wonderland, Regional Online Editor

‘I’m a sucker for gold jewellery – I like to think it gives a slight boho edge to my otherwise quite conservative style, and these candy coloured Sweet Stack rings in chalcedony, moonstone and rose quartz are right up my alley! They look gorgeous stacked together to create an eye-catching bling ring that can take your outfit from day-to-night; or perfect worn one at a time for a more casual weekend getup. The variety of colours should ensure it suits most outfits, but loving my all white ensembles (yes, I am regularly teased for looking like I’m attending P. Diddy’s White Party) this would add a lovely pop of colour!’ – Natalie Whittell, Regional Brand Partnerships and Events Manager

‘I’m totally coveting Lustre’s two-stone agate druzy earrings because they’re great statement earrings without being over the top. I’m always drawn to colourful gemstone pieces, and love the fact the stones used here are raw yet polished looking – dainty with an edge – and have great versatility; they can dress up a basic maxi dress or be worn to a formal affair.’ – Amy Greenburg, Health, Leisure & Dining Editor

‘I love the neutral-toned stones on this statement double line agate cuff, which will blend seamlessly with so many pieces in my wardrobe. I’d pair it with anything from a romantic off-shoulder boho dress and gladiator sandals for casual weekends to dark slim denim, pointed courts and a white shirt for office-chic perfection.’ – Susannah, LIV Editor

‘I’m not someone who has oodles of jewellery for every occasion so I like to buy pieces that work well with the colours I wear and can be worn everyday rather than just on special outings. This gorgeous turquoise bangle is the type of thing I would slip on all the time – not too chunky so I can wear it comfortably at the office and colourful enough to get comments! At $90, it’s also great value, so I’d be tempted to get the chalcedony drop earrings in the same colour to match (also at $90)!’ – Katie Peace, Regional Business Development Manager

‘I’m a massive fan of statement rings. When I got engaged I never opted for a band with a big rock, I went for an eternity ring dotted with tiny diamonds, that then matched the size of my wedding band, which had a small ruby in the centre. I love eye-catching chunky rings, and these Naked stacking rings in chequer cut amethyst definitely make a statement. The gold band works really well with the purple tones of the amethysts, and I think the way they cluster around your finger is really flattering.’ – Amy Brook-Partridge, Home & Property Editor
