‘The meat is from Huber’s’ – we wish we had a dollar for every time those words had been spoken at a barbecue in Singapore! There are few expats who aren’t au fait with Huber’s Butchery’s premium meat counters, which is why we know you’ll join us in celebrating the grand opening of their brand-new super-sized store at 22 Dempsey Road on 24 and 25 October 2015. There’ll be drinks and food, a lion dance, a Swiss band and a grilling competition, plus the chance to nose the swish 13,000 sq ft store and bistro.
Sure, they’re only shifting right across the road from their previous locale, but the plus points of the latest space rack up. Not only will it have a retail area that’s twice as big as 18A Dempsey, there’ll be a dry-ageing chiller (customers can choose meat and have it dry-aged over several days, or you can get your fix on the spot by nabbing a cut that’s already been dry-aged by Huber’s master butchers), an awesome playground, lush greenery views from the bistro (which has extended its opening hours, with last orders now at 9.30pm), free parking and a cooking studio to hone those culinary skills.
What won’t change, though, is the quality of the imported meats and the hams and sausages that this family-owned butcher prepares themselves – 90% of which is free of growth hormones – or the exclusive range of foodie items stocked by Huber’s, including Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, Wellington Honey, Roza’s and Tar10 sauces, Thomy condiments, Farmhouse Muesli and much more.
The festivities will kick off on Saturday 24 October 2015 with a cooking demonstration from Audra Morrice, judge from Masterchef Asia and finalist in Masterchef Australia 2012, at the new Huber’s Gourmet Studio (located on level 2) from 10am to 12 noon. No RSVP required, but seats are limited so pop along early for a prime seat. Audra will be showcasing her two favourite recipes from her new cookbook My Kitchen, Your Table, and her bottled sauces will also be available for purchase.
Swing by later that afternoon to watch self-professed grill masters go head-to-head in a grilling competition that’ll see them snapping up great prizes, including a gas grill from BBQ Warehouse (oh, and a pat on the back from industry experts Peter Knipp, Principal at Peter Knipp Holdings Pte Ltd, and David Pynt, Chef and Owner of Burnt Ends). The competition will kick off at 4pm with grillers given an hour to select ingredients from the shop, prepare a dish over a gas grill and present it to the judges at 5pm.
