Need someone to wave a magic wand over some of the spaces in your home? Here’s one way to conjure up a new look with a minimum of fuss. With its “Magical Homes” home styling makeover package, Arete Culture can spruce up any room in your house or apartment – whether it’s the home office, living room, bedroom or outdoor area.
We spoke with the Arete Culture team about their clients Tammy Phan and Mike Orgill, who recently had a Magical Homes makeover done in their home.
Tell us about Tammy and Mike.
They’re expats who have lived in Singapore for 12 years. They had previously styled their home with second-hand furniture and were moving into a bigger apartment, which also had a rooftop garden.
What kind of home styling did they envision?
The design brief was that they wanted a contemporary, modern home that felt comfortable. They were also open to using more colours as part of their home interior décor.
In addition, they were keen for us to recycle their existing pieces and, as the space was bigger, we were also able to help source new furniture, which is part of the Magical Homes styling package.
Once they saw they could get quality furniture at an affordable price, they asked us to look at a couple more options to replace existing pieces.
What does your styling makeover include?
The Magical Homes package costs $10,000 and it includes the styling of two main areas of the home, plus a slew of key home décor pieces from Arete Culture, along with furniture sourcing from third-party stores.
For Tammy and Mike, the makeover areas comprised the living and dining area, with complimentary styling of the outdoor balcony area. They also “topped up” to have their rooftop garden styled separately.
What items were included in the Magical Home styling essentials?
Aside from sourcing furniture such as the dining table and chairs, sideboard, console, coffee table, armchairs, sofa, ottoman and bookshelf, we also styled key areas in their home with the items described below, which were included without additional charge.
Living area home styling: We styled the living area with a “sunburst” mirror on the wall, throw cushions and covers (five in total), a carpet, a black standing floor lamp and coffee table accessories such as coasters, tray, vase and faux flowers, diffuser and bowl. We also included two vases of faux flowers on the TV console.
Dining area home styling: For the dining area, we sourced a beautiful inlaid tray, vase, faux flowers, napkin holder and candles. We also included a pair of beautiful white chic lamps on the sideboard, a geometric-design vase in yellow, white and gold, faux flowers, a reed diffuser and a ceramic base. There were also some décor items included that we placed on the black shelf next to the sideboard.
Outdoor balcony styling: We styled the outdoor balcony with faux flowers, a coaster set and a ceramic dish.
Was there one thing your client particularly loved about their new home interior décor?
They especially loved the grey/blue-toned wall paint we chose for the space; in fact, they even separately engaged an artist to paint a mural in their kid’s rooms using this same accent wall colour!
A word from Tammy and Mike …
“Caroline and Jeanette have a keen eye for style and design, so they were able to pick out the colour scheme from one of our favourite paintings and build a theme around it. As a result, the entire space looks and feels connected, with thoughtfully arranged art and décor.
We really appreciated the team helping us curate furniture and giving us amazing options to select from. The furniture selection process empowered us to pick our favourite items, and identify pieces that we ordinarily would not have picked ourselves – it saved us from countless hours of searching.
Arete Culture also made moving a seamless process; within half a day, Caroline and her team transformed our space into the home of our dreams. We highly recommend them to anyone looking to transform or upgrade their home.”
