Here’s how you can improve the air quality indoors

17th September 2021 by Dinesh Ajith 2 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/indoor-air-pollution-best-air-purifier-in-singapore/

The problem of air pollution indoors is something that most of us barely think about unless it’s the dreaded haze season. In my case, it was living sandwiched between the dusty construction sites of a condo and the new Thomson-East Coast Line that had me thinking about the indoor air quality of my home – and what the best air purifier for my needs would be.

Beyond the dust from construction, everyday household chores can result in a buildup of common indoor air pollutants. Cooking fumes can remain trapped within the house and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like benzene can be released by common cleaning products. Other pollutants include pollen from flowers, dust mite droppings and dander from pets. There’s also the issue of airborne viruses. These invisible air pollutants can trigger allergies and cause a host of health problems.

To mitigate the problem of air pollution indoors, the installation of a device like the Hextio air purifier is one of the simplest solutions.

An air purifier that cleans and sterilises

The Hextio air purifier is part of Initial’s Viruskiller range. Like its larger counterparts, it utilises a two-stage system to trap indoor air pollution and kill airborne viruses. The first stage features a carbon and HEPA filter that traps ultrafine particles, allergens and VOCs.

While many air purifiers stop here, the Hextio’s second stage features a UV light chamber that kills bacteria, mould and fungi. The units have also been tested by independent labs that have verified that the air purifier is able to kill 99.999% of viruses in a single pass.

A hassle-free way to reduce indoor air pollution

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Hextio is its diminutive size. Despite its stature, the device is designed to work in spaces up to 20 square metres. Because of its size, the device will fit almost anywhere in the home. I chose to install it at my work desk in my bedroom.

While it makes sense to install an air purifier where you spend most of your time, you don’t want a noisy, distracting device set up where you work or sleep. The Hextio air purifier’s high-quality fans ensure that the device runs almost completely silent. In fact, I had no trouble leaving the air purifier on as I slept.

Another useful feature the device packs is its LED light. When the indoor air quality is nominal, it glows a soothing blue. Should it detect any indoor air pollution, the fan speeds up and the light glows red. This instant feedback gives you the opportunity to discover specific causes of pollution in the home.

Best part? The Hextio requires no set-up or assembly – plug it in, turn it on and it’s good to go. It also features a handy remote and that lets you turn off the LED light when you go to bed.

Regular maintenance by professionals

To keep your air purifier in tip-top condition, Initial’s team of service technicians will regularly maintain your unit. This means you’ll never have to fuss with filter replacements and cleaning. Having a professional at hand to replace the filters is also a fantastic benefit as it means you’ll never have to expose yourself to any trapped pollutants.

Hextio and other Viruskiller air purifiers can be purchased directly from Initial.
