Have a spa day at home!

2nd December 2020 by Anthia Chng 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/home-spa-rental-hydrotherapy-japanese-onsen-review/

Beauty salon Chez Moi De Beaute’s latest home spa rental programme lets you have a relaxing spa without heading out. Yes – they’ll send the spa right to your doorstep! Featuring German research and Taiwanese technology, the Grand Spa Hydrotherapy system is a portable hydrotherapy system consisting of an ultrasonic bubble generating machine, a connecting tube, and an infrared bath mat. It delivers beneficial ultrasonic massage bubbles, ions and far-infrared rays to improve your metabolism, microcirculation and overall mood while you relax in the bath.

Been to Japan? Then you’ve probably come across at least one of the thousands of traditional hot springs – known as onsen – dotted across the country. These are associated with a bunch of health and mental benefits, including better blood circulation and improved mental wellness. While most of our travel plans have been derailed this year, the good news is you don’t have to set foot in Japan for your onsen fix – you can recreate the experience in your bathroom.

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is a concept developed by Father Sebastian Kneipp, a Bavarian priest who formulated the “Kneipp Cure” using various water applications to cure his tuberculosis in 1850. It involves the use of water, either internally or externally, to maintain health and prevent disease.

Our review

JACQUI YOUNG tried out the Grand Spa Hydrotherapy system at home for a week – here’s what she thought!

“This convenient machine lets you have a hydrotherapy session without leaving the house. The system delivers multiple benefits; it creates an ultrasonic bubble bath infused with relaxing aromatherapy bath oils to improve circulation and massage away your stress and worries.

The whole system is delivered to your house and includes the actual spa machine, a bath mat, an air pillow, a thermometer to check the water temperature, plus a selection of oils and bath salts. For those who don’t own a tub, an inflatable one can be arranged.

The spa system is very easy to use as full instructions are provided, from the best range of water temperature to the amount of oils and salts to be used for each session. After you’ve hooked up the system to a socket plug, you’ll need to fill the bath with water of around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. Turn on the machine and the water should start bubbling. Then, enter the tub and relax for 15 to 30 minutes. The recommendation is once or twice a day.

A total of seven oils and three salts are included in the spa rental kit with directions on how to blend them for the best results. Moya essential oils and salts are used to enhance the hydrotherapy bath experience; they’re completely water-soluble so you’re not left with the sticky and oily bathtub grime after you’re done. When you’ve run out, you can get a restock from Chez Moi De Beaute’s online store, flowwe.sg.

There are said to be more health benefits from the ultrasonic bubble massage than a regular jacuzzi, as it improves overall metabolism. The system stimulates internal warming that extends post-spa, akin to the feeling you get after an onsen session. A 15-minute soak at 40 degrees Celsius can burn the same amount of calories as a 30-minute jog, which is impressive!

Aside from helping improve overall health, the home spa system can also be used just for relaxing. Every second, 46 litres of air are forced out of 300 tiny holes in the mat. The collision of these bubbles allows you to experience a gentle yet deep massage as the bubbles come into contact with your body. The bubble intensity can be altered with the dial, and a timer can be set so you know when to get up. The Grand Spa Hydrotherapy system can also help to contour the body and give it a deep cleanse by removing dead skin cells.” – Jacqui Young

Hydrotherapy trial sessions (15 minutes, $38) are available at Chez Moi De Beaute. You can also opt for a one-day rental at $150, where the machine will be delivered to your home by a hydrotherapy representative who will teach you how to use the machine. After that, you’re free to use the spa for the next 24 hours, before it’s collected the next day. Weekly and monthly rental options, as well as direct purchase, are available, too.
