Need help around the house?

30th October 2019 by Lindsay Yap 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/home-services-app-handyman-house-cleaning-singapore-ovvy/

Air-con stopped working? Lights not coming on? Got a dirty house? This home services app has a heap of people you can call on for help. Instead of spending time on Google, they’re all in one place – and they’re vetted with verified reviews already too!

What is it and how it works

Ovvy is an app that connects you with local home-service providers. You’ll be able to post, compare and book a wide range of services instead of googling each one individually. They include home cleaning, movers, air-con maintenance and repair, handymen, plumbers and electrician services. Keep an eye out as they’ll be adding to the list!

Ovvy how to use

It’s easy to use – select a service category and post a job request. On the form, you can note down details such as the date and time, location and even attach photos. After that, wait for offers to come pouring in as service providers bid for the job. After that, you can compare prices, profiles and also chat with the providers on the app before deciding who to choose. Once you’ve picked a provider, accept the job by paying for the bid and wait for them to turn up at the scheduled time. You won’t need to sign a service contract with these providers, but can pick, choose and reuse them depending on your preference.

Note that the price you are offered by providers will include Ovvy charges (10%), which go towards keeping the app running.

What we like about it

#1 Safety on different levels

Once you accept a bid from a service provider, your payment will be transferred via PayPal to an escrow account, while the job is being done. After the service is completed satisfactorily, confirm this on your app (the provider will need to do that as well) and your payment will be officially transferred to the provider. Also, since everything is done on the app, if there is any disagreement, there is a record of your chat with the provider, photos sent and other details, making it easier to resolve any problems.

Each provider is verified by their identity card or company registration before qualifying to be an Ovvy merchant. If any issue comes up during the process, Ovvy has full access to exactly who is responsible. In addition, all reviews on Ovvy are verified as customers can only leave reviews on a merchant’s profile if they have used them before on Ovvy.

#2 Check out reviews

You can scroll through individual company profiles, ratings and verified reviews by other users. If your app is signed in via Facebook, reviews by your Facebook friends will automatically appear at the top of the list. Is there a better way to choose a service provider than reading reviews by people you know?

You’ll also be able to give a review of the provider after each job and set it as a favourite in the app so you can hire them again next time.

#3 Get rewarded

All users will receive points for each job completed on Ovvy. You can eventually cash out these points and use them to offset payments.

Anything new in the pipeline?

The company plans to add more services to its offerings, such as pest control and even pet sitting. They also hope to go beyond the household services and offer services that businesses may need. On their website, you can also suggest a service you often use for the company’s consideration!
