Whether you like honey on your morning toast, stirred into your tea, or drizzled over yoghurt, there’s no denying that this cherished pantry staple is full of health benefits. But with so many different honey brands in Singapore, it can be tricky to know which to choose. So we’ve been busy bees and have taste-tested three delicious products from Finnish honey brand Hunaja, along with a delicious fruity ice pop recipe.
“There are so many health benefits in every spoonful,” says the brand’s founder, AAPO SAVO. “From a soothing therapeutic remedy for sore throats to boosting your body’s defences against illness, the immune-boosting and antimicrobial properties of this natural energy source are well-documented – and it tastes amazing on everything from cheese boards to charcuterie platters!”
Available on Lazada and RedMart, the Hunaja range is produced by bees that forage on the vast expanses of Finland’s forests, meadows and wildflowers. Sustainability and ethical beekeeping practices are at its heart, and this Nordic wholesomeness comes through in each of the products – a creamy Finnish Floral Honey with a light and smooth texture, an old-fashioned Finnish Traditional Crystallized Honey, and a runny pollen-free Filtered Honey that’s perfect for those with pollen allergies.
We find out what the buzz is about this Finnish honey brand in Singapore
“Sampling this Finnish honey was certainly no chore. There are three deliciously different products in the range, each with its own flavour and profile.
My favourite was the Crystallized Honey, which I’ve been having with hot water and lemon first thing in the morning. It’s similar to a Manuka consistency but slightly sweeter and a little goes a long way. It was lovely spread over toast, too. The founders mention that it’s a recipe passed down over generations and the rustic grainy texture is testament to this.
The Floral Honey is something quite different: golden, smooth and full of distinct floral notes, it’s like a summer’s day in the Finnish countryside.
The Filtered Honey is closest to the classic honey we all know and love. I fixed myself a sweet treat by making icy fruit popsicles with it – great for quickly cooling down on a hot Singapore day!”
