Japan Film Festival 2026 – The Singapore-Japan 60 Edition

Singapore’s longest-running film festival returns from 1 to 11 October at Shaw Theatres Lido. The Japan Film Festival 2026 presents the Singapore-Japan 60 (SJ60) edition with 25 screenings across 11 days in four segments:
- Spotlight on Eric Khoo, Cultural Medallion recipient and Festival Ambassador of JFF 2026: Three films trace his long dialogue with Japan – Tatsumi (2011), Ramen Teh (2018), Spirit World (2024).
- Panorama: Presents the most talked about Japanese titles of the past year, from festival premieres to mainstream hits including Bring Him Down to a Portable Size, Suzuki=Bakudan, The Making of a Japanese, The Samurai and the Prisoner.
- Animation: Chimney Town: Frozen in Time had its world premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, Generation Kplus, and a screening at Annecy in 2026.
- Classics in 4K: Hula Girls and Shall We Dance?
On the festival’s final day, a Mystery Screening will have audiences finding out what they are watching only when the lights go down – tickets are sold on trust alone.
An extended programme running until 18 October features 14 screenings by Filmhouse and the Asian Film Archive. All films are subtitled in English. For the full schedule, refer to this website.

First held in 1983, JFF is one of Singapore’s longest-running film festivals and the country’s flagship annual celebration of Japanese cinema. Its 2026 edition takes place in a year when Singapore and Japan mark six decades of exchange across trade, education, culture and film.
