Disobedient Bodies: Reclaiming Her – Exhibition opening
11 January, 2025 - 18 January, 2025
Meet the artists and curator at the opening of Disobedient Bodies: Reclaiming Her.
Held in conjunction with Art SG 2025, this exhibition features new and recent creations by Nadiah Bamadhaj (Malaysia), Peihang Benoît (Taiwan), Lê Hiền Minh (Vietnam), Maria Madeira (Timor-Leste), Charmaine Poh (Singapore), Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook (Thailand), Soe Yu Nwe (Myanmar), and Pannaphan Yodmanee (Thailand).
Supported by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, the exhibition is curated by Italian scholar and independent curator Loredana Pazzini-Paracciani, a leading advocate for counter-hegemonic and non-Western-centric perspectives in Southeast Asian contemporary art.
Through diverse media, the eight featured artists explore themes of gender, identity, and autonomy. Their works serve as a thought-provoking dialogue on the tensions between patriarchal societal expectations and female self-ownership. By dismantling entrenched gender narratives and fostering discourse on emancipation and diversity, this offers a platform for reflection and engagement.
A digital publication featuring an in-depth curatorial essay by Pazzini-Paracciani accompanies the exhibition, providing further insights into the artists’ works and their global significance.
The opening programme on 11 January includes an engaging discussion from 4pm to 6pm with artists and the curator on current topics in art and social equality. On 18 January at 11am to 12nn, follow Loredana on a curatorial walk-through of the exhibition. All are welcome for both events.
