It’s August already, yet most of us still haven’t quite started that fitness resolution we made in January. Yup, it’s about time to do something about it, isn’t it?
We’ve done the hard work (well, not exactly – that will be the bit that involves running about) and put together this list of great sporting events going down in Singapore over the next few months. They range from being chased by zombies (literally – it’s not a metaphore) to taking on an obstacles course the Special Forces would be proud of. So, you there, stop putting it off and sign up to one of these bad boys before registration closes.

Cold Storage International Triathlon 2013
East Coast Park Area E2, Angsana Green
The low-down: Here, everyone can do a triathlon – there’s the Standard Distance (1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run), Sprint (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) and even mini triathlon (200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run). There’s also a non-competitive event for families.
Cost: $$148 (individual), $396 (relay)

The North Face 100
Exact route to be released at a later date
The low-down: Endurance races with distances of 100km, 50km, 25km and 13km. Not for the couch potato, join only if you’ve been good and clocking up mileage throughout the year. The exact race route will only be release few weeks prior to the event.
Cost: $321 (100km), $112.35 (50km), $85.60 (25km) and $69.55 (13km)

Singapore Duathlon 2013
East Coast Park, Angsana Green
The low-down: If you can’t do a full triathlon (or just suck at swimming), try out a duathlon of run – bike – run. Choose from the Standard Distance (10km run, 26km bike, 5km run) or Sprint (5km run, 18km bike, 2.5km run).
Cost: $89 (standard) and $73 (sprint), these prices are available till 11 September only

Race The Dead 2013
The low-down: This fun 5k dash will set your heart racing faster than you legs ever could. At every corner, there are hordes of zombies waiting to grab at you so you better run for your life and head to The Fort, the only safe haven in the zombie-infested land.
Registration for Day 2 closes 22 September 2013, Day 1 sold out in less than 14 hours so fastest finger first if you are up for a scare.

Singapore Exchange (SGX) Bull Charge

The low-down: See the CBD in a different way. If you work in the financial industry, you can join the 5km run in the financial district. Otherwise, you can secretly sign up your boss for the 3km Chief Challenge (open to CEO or chief of companies). You didn’t hear that from us.
Cost: First come first served, minimum $50 donation

Swissôtel Vertical Marathon
Swissôtel, 2 Stamford Road
The low-down: This vertical race up the Swissôtel, one of Southeast Asia’s tallest hotels, is no a walk in the park. We’re talking 73 floors, an elevation of 226m and 1,336 steps in total! Last year’s winner Aussie Darren James Wilson completed it in an impressive 7 minutes, 13.15 seconds – think you can beat that? No, us either.

Lion Dash Singapore
Tampines Bike Park
The low-down: One more obstacle challenge for those who hate pounding the pavement. There is the Lion Dash Sprint (5 to 6km obstacle run), Lion Dash King (10km) and other crazy activities soon to be announced. Expect mud, barbed wire, ice cold water and lots of heart-racing crazy running.
Cost: From $59

The Green Corridor
The low-down: Designed by two former Special Forces offices, the inaugural Commando Challenge is a series of military obstacles that will challenge participants both physically and mentally. There’s a 12km off-road course with 25+ military obstacles for the Elite and a shorter 4km with 15+ military obstacles for the Sprint category.
Cost: From $80 (Elite) and from $59 (Sprint), need to form a team of 4
