Paraben-free skincare for men!

5th January 2021 by Anthia Chng 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/best-skincare-for-men-face-wash-moisturiser-paraben-free/

Guys: did you know that your skin is structurally different from that of ladies? For most men, androgen (testosterone) stimulation results in skin that’s thicker and tougher than women’s skin. This also means you might need something more than just your wife’s, mum’s or sister’s moisturiser or face wash! Lumin was founded on this concept; this California-based online store offers simple yet effective skincare for men, tailored to different skin types and concerns. So, whether you’re looking for a good face cleanser or a moisturiser for men, this is one brand to check out.

To differentiate Lumin from other men’s skincare brands, founders Richard Hong and Darwish Gani flew to South Korea to work on formulas that benefit the thicker and more stubborn skin constructs of men. Most of the ingredients used are powerful plant-based extracts like ginger root, rosemary, coffee and shea butter. The paraben-free and cruelty-free brand also makes a point of avoiding unnecessary nasties commonly associated with popular off-the-shelf skincare products.

If it’s your first time shopping for men’s skincare, you’ll be glad to know that the Lumin experience is simple and fuss-free. Just fill out a brief questionnaire and you’ll get a personalised skincare regime that’s suited to your skin type and lifestyle. You can choose to go with a one-time purchase or have your products delivered on a subscription basis. Alternatively, shop from the curated range of skincare sets catered to different budgets and preferences.

Our reader reviews men’s skincare from Lumin

“Like a lot of guys, I’ve never really thought about the concept of using products consistently as part of a skincare regime. Yes, I steal my wife’s face cream after catching a little too much sun sometimes, but it has never been something I prioritised. So the Complete Skincare Gift Set from Lumin was perfect, giving me an easy-to-follow process that I was able to incorporate into my daily routine. The website complements the products with simple instructions. The package even comes in a premium storage case; that means you don’t have your significant other complaining about products cluttering the sink top!

Charcoal Cleanser

For me, the Charcoal Cleanser, followed by the Moisturising Balm (made with a blend of apple and ginger extracts with meadowfoam seed oil to balance the skin’s natural oils) became an evening ritual. After a few days of use, I could already notice my skin looking healthier, moisturised and toned.

I particularly like the Dark Circle Defense, a lightweight eye cream that spreads easily without any sticky or greasy residue, making tired eyes look more energised quickly. Throughout the day, the Recovery Oil was handy in giving me instant hydration whenever my skin felt dry in air-conditioned environments. It comes in a portable and spill-proof roller bottle, great for carrying on when we’re able to return to flying. It gives your skin an instant “ahh” moment. Lastly, the Exfoliating Rub used before a shave really helped to remove dead skin, meaning I could get an even closer shave.

Lumin’s range and quality of cruelty-free, paraben-free and dermatologically tested products really impressed me. They’re also relatively fragrance-free, unlike many similar men’s skincare products I’ve tried. There’s also a good range of sets that make the perfect gift for any hard-to-buy-for male.”
