If you need a pick-me-up, one thing that works for us every time is a luxurious facial. Not only can it help clear congested skin and give your face a glow, an amazing facial will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Not sure where to go? The Face Place is one facial salon we’ve just discovered (and fallen in love with!).
Top facials and beautiful city views
Located on the 12th floor of an office building right next to Clarke Quay MRT station, The Face Place is a hidden gem in the city. It’s a spacious and tastefully decorated beauty salon housed in a SOHO studio loft; almost like you’re stepping into a stylish friend’s chic abode! Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a scenic view of the neighbourhood – natural light streams through during daytime, and colourful city lights shine brilliantly as night falls.
The Face Place uses organic products in its facial treatments, which incorporate a special massage technique to get rid of fine lines and give you that youthful glow. The menu ranges from a signature 60-minute facial massage ($110) – perfect as a monthly maintenance treatment – to indulgent 90-minute facials that use high-tech machines and premium skincare products. We got to try a facial and a lash lift; read on for our two reviews!
“I sometimes find spas almost too dark and peaceful. That’s why I like The Face Place. (And don’t you just love the name?) It’s brightly lit with a lively and cheerful atmosphere. Also, it’s not one of those ‘factory’ spas, with room after room of services. Rather, The Face Place does one facial at a time – talk about personal attention! The facial is personalised, too; right from the start, Sandra and I discussed my skin type and what would be best for me.
I was treated to The Ritual Face Spa ($280) – kind of like the granddaddy of all facials. After a double cleanse, Sandra went to work very gently extracting all those nasties courtesy of Singapore’s humidity with the help of a Vitamin D emollient. Then it was time for the pampering, which included a high-frequency treatment and an ampoule application – the latter was an essential oil blend chosen just for me (rose, frankincense, rosehip and jojoba).
Next came the RF therapy, an anti-wrinkle mask application and Skinceuticals hydrating serum. Was there anything I didn’t get? I felt very spoiled! Sandra finished with a fabulous face, neck and shoulder massage using ginger and lemongrass oils. That woman has some very strong hands. (My lucky neck!)
The facial uses Guasha and Bojin techniques, a special type of tissue manipulation to promote lymphatic circulation, contouring and shaping of the facial muscles. This technique can also help with dark eye circles, puffy eyes and fine lines. Sure enough, my skin felt brighter and firmer when I got home after the 90-minute facial. I did break out a little, but not as much as usual (I have crazy sensitive skin). It’s been several days now and I just went and really studied myself in the mirror – something I kind of avoid. I definitely think my fine lines look a bit better and my skin seems a bit tighter. So, it’s all good news!”

#2 Lash Lift
“I get eyelash extensions done every now and then, but it’s mostly for when I travel. The extra thickness and length help frame my eyes well and make me look more awake. Plus, it’s a major timesaver when I’m getting ready in the morning!
The Lash Lift ($80) at The Face Place uses products imported from Korea. It was my first time trying an eyelash perm, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Turns out, it was quicker and more comfortable than a session of lash extensions! The hour-long treatment began with eyelash cleansing to get rid of built-up gunk and to prevent potential infections. Sandra then placed collagen eye patches to keep the lower lashes out of the way. Next, she set the top lashes on a lash pad – this determines the extent of the curl. I opted for a regular curl, but there’s also the option of having them super curled up.
Then a perming lotion is used on the lashes, followed by a setting lotion. Sandra applied a nourishing treatment at the end to strengthen the lashes and prevent breakage. It was so relaxing that I drifted in and out of sleep – there wasn’t any weird sensation or tightness, and Sandra was super gentle!
I love my ‘new’ lashes. The effect is less dramatic than eyelash extensions, but there’s still a noticeable difference from my naturally straight lashes. The lift is obvious, and should stay on for up to two months. I’m toying with the idea of a second session after that – it’ll be a good reason to try Sandra’s facials in the same sitting!”
