The First Refresh – at home manicure and pedicure
Reviewer: Judit Gál
This is an on-demand beauty platform that brings quality beauty and wellness services to you, anytime, anywhere. Yes, that’s right – you don’t have to commute to a salon to have a mani-pedi done now; you can stay in your pyjamas!
All it takes is a click to select the preferred time slot on the website, with as little as two hours’ notice – and you can opt for classic, gel or non-toxic halal, choose your colour preferences, nail art and so on.
Once I’d chosen my options, the next thing I knew, my Beauty Consultant, Yenni, had arrived and was transforming a small corner of my home into a spa, ensuring everything was kept neat and clean. While my feet were soaked in the warm water, Yenni started working on my hands; cuticle care, shaping nails, adding a fresh coat of polish – and letting me try a few shades.
My feet were then ready for the cleansing scrub and nail work. After the two-hour session, Yenni professionally packed up everything; the only proof left of the private home spa session was my beautifully lacquered nails and soft heels!
The classic Nail Oasis costs $95. The First Refresh offers nail, brow, lash and facial services to both individuals and groups so you can complete your beauty fix in half the time.

Trimmings Salon & Spa for manicure and pedicure
Reviewer: Rebecca Bisset
I wish this nail salon was closer to home! I’ve had some pretty poor experiences lately and being back here made me remember what a really good manicure and pedicure was like. The arm and leg massages were fantastic; I think I was actually purring…
The position overlooking Loewen Gardens is lovely too; I could watch squirrels in the trees and people jogging by – when I had my eyes open. Henna and Lynn, my therapists, were chilled, the nail polish has lasted, and my feet are still smooth (and they were pretty dodgy before – it had been a while since they’d been sloughed!).
While I was there, I booked in for a wash and blow-dry to make sure I matched my nails, and the head massage was also divine.
The smells of the creams they use, the coffee and the setting are all perfect for me. What more could you ask for?
