Are you looking to kick off 2024 on an eco-conscious note when it comes to your wardrobe? Then make a beeline for Design Orchard, which has just unveiled a special capsule collection featuring gorgeous new pieces from some of Singapore’s favourite homegrown labels. The best part? They’re all crafted from sustainably produced rayon fabric sponsored by Royal Golden Eagle, a Singapore-headquartered group that manages resource-based manufacturing companies around the world.
A meeting of local talent and sustainable fabrics at Design Orchard
Unveiled earlier this week in front of excited VIPs, media and members of the Singapore Fashion Council, this very special collaboration with Royal Golden Eagle and Asia Pacific Rayon features the creations of designers behind six familiar homegrown labels. They are Sabrinagoh, Caeli Eco Luxe, Pinksalt, Junglesuit, Salient Label and Ikkikidz.
These designers were invited to create captivating pieces that not only reflect their distinct styles but also shared a commitment to sustainability. The brief? They had to all be made from 250 yards of Royal Golden Eagle-sponsored rayon fabric (also known as viscose) derived from cellulose found in sustainably sourced renewable materials such as wood.
This initiative is not just about fashion. It’s also a mindful step towards preserving our planet through creativity and innovation. The result is a one-of-a-kind capsule collection featuring everything from ethereal dresses to versatile separates and beachwear. You’ll even find cute pieces for your little ones.
Fashion lovers will have until 21 January to check out this shop-in-shop pop-up at Design Orchard, while the capsule collection will be available at the brands’ respective in-store retail area afterwards. That’s not all. At the integrated retail and incubation space on Orchard Road, you’ll also discover 21 newly arriving homegrown brands as well as the 2024 Chinese New Year collection ‘Orchard of Abundance’ under its roof. More reasons to shop away!
A glimpse of the six featured designers and their eco-friendly rayon designs:
Sabrinagoh
Designer Sabrina Goh founded her eponymous contemporary fashion label in 2009. It’s since become a favourite among Singapore women for its minimalist design, playful detailing as well as innovative silhouettes. Sabrina’s sleek and lightweight creations for this capsule collection highlight a play on textiles and craftsmanship, while still retaining its practical and distinctive touch.
Caeli Eco Luxe
Sustainability is at the heart of this modern chic fashion brand founded in 2020. The team works closely with communities in its supply chain with a shared vision to produce high-quality, beautifully made clothes using sustainable fabrics. Its capsule collection features dresses, structural tops and bottoms and more that will take you from the office to casual gatherings in style.
Pinksalt
Who can resist Pinksalt’s resort-chic swimwear and beach wear? At Design Orchard, you’ll find its capsule collection of rayon beachy maxi dresses in casual yet flattering silhouettes. Each is emblazoned with an original tropical-inspired digital print. They’re perfect for seaside outings, but you can also dress them up for dinners and dates alike with some fabulous heels and accessories.
Junglesuit
No stranger to EL readers, Junglesuit was founded by Hungarian-French and Canadian expats Andrea and Catherine. The brand often uses breathable and eco-friendly fabrics such as sustainable rayon and sustainable cotton in their designs. Check out the capsule collection which features laidback, breezy styles ranging from midi shift dresses to tops and bottoms.
Salient Label
Salient Label focus on slow fashion and effortless designs. All of their pieces are made from sustainable fabrics such as Cupro, EcoVero and Tencel. We love the brand’s sleek shift dresses as well as shirts and bottoms in relaxed silhouettes, which you can find in this capsule collection.
Ikkikidz
Fostering a future generation of little eco-warriors, Ikkikidz is a homegrown kidswear brand that encourages kids to express themselves through sustainable clothing. Its pieces are comfortable and versatile. They also feature cute graphic designs with an attitude, including the little dresses and separates found in this capsule collection.
