In August this year, SJI International School threw a fundraising dinner at Goodwood Park Hotel. The school’s community of board members, staff, parents, students, scholars and donors came together and helped the school raise $5 million. The funds went towards the SJI International Scholarship Programme for international students in Singapore, Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents.
The theme of the night was “SINGALA IV: A Night in Old Shanghai”. Guests were treated to an array of performances, including a showcase by the Elementary School Bilingual Programme students, musical performances by High School students, and a dynamic wushu display.
A highlight of the evening was hearing the poignant reflections of three past and present scholars on how the scholarship programme has profoundly impacted their lives.
A word from the school about the SJI International Scholarship Programme…
“Our Scholarship Programme was established to provide suitable students with a comprehensive and holistic educational opportunity at SJI International, regardless of their background. As a Lasallian Catholic school, the school is dedicated to making transformative education accessible to all, with a special focus on reaching out to ‘the last, the lost, and the least’.
While most of our scholarships benefit Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, we also extend opportunities to outstanding students from Southeast Asia. This brings a rich diversity of perspectives to our school community.
The SJI International scholarships extend beyond tuition assistance, offering vital resources that empower students to excel academically and personally. This support includes coverage from textbooks and uniforms to examination fees, pocket money and participation in trips and excursions.”
Successes over the past two decades
“Since 2007, over $30 million have been awarded in fees and costs. Over 300 students have benefitted from the scholarship programmes for international students in Singapore, Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents.
Many of our graduates from the SJI International Scholarship Programme have achieved remarkable success. They have gained admission to prestigious international universities such as Harvard, Stanford, MIT and Yale in the USA. In the UK, they have secured places at renowned institutions like Cambridge and Oxford.
For those who chose to pursue their studies locally, our scholars have gained admission to highly competitive courses locally. These include Dentistry, Law and Medicine at the National University of Singapore. Our students’ matriculation into these faculties reflects the commitment to academic excellence and future success that defines the ethos of SJI International.
Our alumni continue to make significant contributions in various fields worldwide. They continue embodying the values and education they received during their time with us.
SJI International doesn’t receive government funding, so we rely on our fundraising efforts to provide these life-changing opportunities. We’re delighted that our community came together and we met our target for the SJI International scholarship. This will enable us to support many more deserving Local, Foreign and Lasallian Scholars in 2025 and beyond.”
SJI International is at 490 Thomson Road.
