How to get rid of double chins!
My double chin(s) seem to dominate photos of me lately. We had a big family wedding last year and they were all I could see! I’m sure losing a bit of weight would help, but as that’s not happening, I wanted to see what could be done to sculpt or lift my double chins instead. My neck is also always in need of some TLC, so I was looking for something that could help both issues. I ended up going for radiofrequency (RF) at Kelly Oriental.
Tailored aesthetic clinic treatments and medispa facials
Historically, Kelly Oriental in Holland Village has focused on wellness, massage and beauty. Now there’s a second shophouse where the emphasis is on tailored aesthetic clinic treatments and medispa facials. It’s beautifully decorated and designed, with a circular staircase up the centre. The couches have shaggy sheepskins on them, the light is great, and it has beautifully finished design accents throughout. There’s even a cool lounge room that can be used for small gatherings and meetings. The team say they’re keen to network with like-minded businesses too.
For the consultation on my double chins and some advice on general ageing issues, I meet with aesthetic doctor Dr Colin Ng. His treatment rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the entrance of Holland Village. It’s very cool.
We discuss what I want and don’t want, and he talks me through a couple of options before we fix on the Sylfirm X Lift. This works on getting radiofrequency (RF) below the dermis to straighten and strengthen the collagen strips. Dr Ng says we need to aim for between the dermis and subcutaneous layer, about 1mm to 4mm deep. When we’re young, these strips are long and horizontal. Over time, they become shorter and angled. This affects the skin’s smoothness as well as it’s strength in keeping everything up!
Dr Ng draws me a great diagram of how the RF treatment works and what kind of issues it helps. He feels it will lift and help with skin laxity and wrinkles in general and help lift and smooth my double chins. We’re going to use it all over my face and neck too, as it helps with pores, redness and melasma. It can also be used in increasing hair growth on the scalp for anyone facing hair loss.
The treatment
Once we’ve agreed on this, I’m taken off to have the numbing cream applied. He assures me that it’s not too painful, and nothing like the discomfort of ultherapy. I’ve had RF recently and liked it, so I don’t feel too nervous, especially as there’s numbing cream involved.
The treatment itself is fairly straightforward, with just a little sting in the areas with more fragile skin. I don’t feel anything on my double chins – there’s enough padding there, obviously!
Afterwards, I get to spend 15 minutes under one of the medical masks that the team at Kelly Oriental have developed, and also take a few home. There are masks for ageing skin and for more acne-prone skins too.
There’s no redness after my treatment or other downtime except staying out of the sun for a few days. Also, I’m advised to use a regular moisturiser and nothing with AHA or retinol for a week. Dr Ng does recommend having a couple of treatments one month apart at first, then every three to six months after. This will depend on your desired look and the size of your piggy bank.
It’s been three weeks now and I think there’s definitely an improvement in my profile of my chin from just the one session. I had heaps of pics taken with my mum when she visited Singapore recently and at least my double chins didn’t shout at me! The general muscle tone and texture of my face and neck are better too.
