Furniture shopping, rental, art and more!

28th May 2021 by Amy Brook-Partridge 3 Min Read

“One stop shop” is a phrase that gets bandied around a lot, so I promise I won’t say it here! But, whether you’re furniture shopping, looking to rent furniture, want to buy art, a cushion or even a bespoke cat house that doubles as a shoe cabinet (more of that later), WTP The Furniture Company has it all.

The brand’s passionate founder Mimi Somjee has spearheaded its success over 30 years, and daughter Naazli has joined her mother to help run the business.

Furniture shopping at WTP

The company promises quality craftsmanship, a huge range of styles (all of which can be viewed in situ in the three-storey showroom on Kung Chong Road), and complementary 360-degree services. So, if you want to rent furniture, buy art or customise furniture, or you’re looking for interior design help, WTP offers the lot. Here’s our breakdown of what you can expect.

#1 Furniture rental

Furniture shopping

When you rent furniture from WTP you can choose from one piece to an item to for every room. Lease periods range from 12 to 36 months, or you can opt for short-term one-month rentals that can be renewed monthly. You’ll also have access to warranty and maintenance services. If you have something specific in mind, the team can customise the colour, fabric and wood-finishing of your furniture.

After you rent the furniture you can decide to buy the pieces, and WTP can also advise on how the it will fit in your current and future home, both from a design and size perspective.

#2 Furniture shopping

If you visit the three-storey WTP showroom you’d be hard-pressed not to find a style for most tastes or a piece of furniture for any room in the home. Designs vary from rustic to classic, eclectic to industrial. Furniture shopping for sofas is particularly fun at WTP; their collection has some fun colours and fabrics, with shades ranging from muted neutrals to intense and vivid colours like navy blue and deep purple. Fabrics are hardier polyester blends that feel like linens as well as velvets, with some in LivSmart fabrics – great if you have pets or children.

#3 Customisation

WTP rent furniture

Customised furniture with upholstery – sofas, armchairs, upholstered dining chairs and beds, for example – are a key part of how WTP makes items to suit those who are furniture shopping but can’t get that perfect piece. You can choose from an extensive fabric library that includes stain-resistant fabrics as well as embroidered fabrics in a range of colours. They can also work with metal and marble or marble and wood combinations for pieces like coffee tables and side tables. In addition, upholstered bedframes have become a frequently requested item of the store.

The customisation process can take anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours. It just depends on the scope of the design, as well as your decision-making prowess. The most unusual piece of customised furniture the WTP team has been asked to create? Yes, it’s that cat house that doubles as a shoe cabinet! So, they really can make bespoke furniture for anyone.

#4 Interior design

WTP rent furniture

WTP’s in-house designers are on hand to help you turn the vision you have for your home into reality. Simply make an appointment to start planning your space; the designers will want to get to know you and your tastes, initial ideas and lifestyle requirements. From here, they’ll explore concepts and ideas to marry up with your vision, before implementing the project itself.

The design team have managed numerous interior projects, from small high-rise apartments to landed homes. What’s more, they don’t just have a vast array of furniture and décor at their fingertips; they also know the wider Singapore furniture shopping industry inside out.

#5 Buying art

Buy art from WTP

The artwork at WTP covers a range of eras, mediums and styles – from mixed-media paintings, photographs and colourful prints, to elegant drawings and illustrations. The team understands that buying art can be a great investment, while also offering pieces starting at an affordable price point, from $290 going up to $1,750 depending on the material and size.

Key advice from WTP’s Naazli is to set a budget, particularly if you’re looking for affordable art. “It’s even more important when it comes to art as there is an emotional connection with a certain piece. When we have clients considering buying furniture and art in Singapore we want them to purchase something they will love looking at every day.”

#6 Soft furnishings

WTP buy art

WTP carries a wide range of upholstery fabric for beds, armchairs and sofas. Customers will also find a great variety of cushions, curtains and wall panels.

Not sure what to choose? Naazli or one of the in-house stylists are on hand to advise. “Don’t be afraid to match textures,” she says. “If you’re scared of too much colour, then use the same colour tone but change up the upholstery fabric; so, pair a linen sofa with velvet cushions and a velvet armchair, for example.”
