THE RIDDLER
Chicken or the egg?
One day, a scholar turned up at the court of the Emperor Akbar, wishing to the test the renowned wisdom of the royal advisor Birbal. The scholar said to Birbal, “Do you wish to answer 100 easy questions, or just a single difficult question?”
Neither Akbar nor Birbal was in the mood to entertain the scholar for too long, so Birbal answered, “You can ask me one difficult question.”
The scholar then said, “Very well, here it is: Which came first into the world, the chicken or the egg?”
Birbal took no time in answering confidently: “The chicken!” A confident smile broke out on the scholar’s face. “How do you know?” he asked. What was Birbal’s reply?
Answer
Birbal replied, “We agreed that you would ask only one question, and you have already asked it, so we are done!”
