Dubai is no stranger to iconic landmarks, but with the newly opened Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, the city has unveiled something truly extraordinary. EL’s JACQUI YOUNG is now based in the UAE, and she gives us the inside scoop from her recent weekend staycation at this hotel in Dubai.
Rising from its golden peninsula like a futuristic superyacht, this marvel by award-winning contemporary architect Shaun Killa completes Jumeirah’s nautical trilogy of buildings, alongside the wave-shaped Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the legendary sail of Burj Al Arab. Our staycation felt less like a hotel visit and more like stepping into an entirely new way of life.
First Impressions of the Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab
Arriving at the resort on a busy Friday, we were immediately struck by its presence: sweeping curves, glass façades reflecting the sea, and organisation on another level. Inside, the welcome was equally spectacular – warm smiles, the fragrance of fresh blooms, and an impressive lobby. From the very first step, it felt like the promise of an unforgettable weekend.
We checked into a Two-Bedroom Ocean Family Suite, and it was nothing short of palatial. A grand terrace overlooked the shimmering waters and, of course, the unmistakable silhouette of Burj Al Arab. The interiors struck the perfect balance between contemporary luxury and comfort: a timeless marble bathroom, walk-in closet, butler service on call, and thoughtful touches like Dyson hairdryers, Hercule yoga mats, and Bang & Olufsen speakers.
Fabulous food at this hotel in Dubai
Dining at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is a world tour, with 11 restaurants offering distinct culinary stories.
We began with lunch at Mirabelle, a charming ode to the South of France led by Chef Sacha Enjalbert. The light, elegant offerings – including a delicious array of fresh seafood – capture the Riviera spirit perfectly. Later, dinner at Rialto, guided by Chef Roberto Rispoli, was a theatrical affair – an electric atmosphere incorporating northern Italian flavours elevated to glamorous heights, paired with candlelight dancing off the marina waters.
The following day, we ate at Iliana, a Greek-inspired haven by Chef Andreas Gkipalis, which served up sundrenched dishes that were unbelievably fresh and tasty and transported us straight to Mykonos. Dinner was at Madame Li, where Chef Mehmet Ipar offers an elegant Pan-Asian feast – soulful food that tells a story and is perfectly matched to the atmospheric interiors.
Nightcaps at The Fore Bar and later at Rialto Bar proved equally memorable – open bars where live cocktails are crafted with artistry. Each space was buzzing with energy yet steeped its own refined charm
Spa & Swim Staycation
No stay here would be complete without indulging in the Talise Spa. The space is surrounded by natural light, with serene views enhancing the relaxing experience.
Between gourmet experiences and wellness indulgences, we retreated often to the Iliana Beach & Pool Club, exclusive to suite guests. Here, time seemed to slow down as we lounged by the infinity pool, gazing out at the endless Arabian Gulf. It was the perfect balance to the city’s usual energy.
Our final morning began with breakfast at Commodore Club located in the residences; it’s a relaxed yet elegant venue overlooking the marina. On offer was elevated comfort food – the usual breakfast staples, fluffy pastries and rich coffee, all with a sense of everyday sophistication.
Leaving Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab was the hardest part of our weekend staycation. The resort really does reimagine luxury hospitality: it’s elegant yet approachable, and futuristic yet rooted in Dubai’s seafaring heritage. It’s a place where architecture, cuisine and wellness converge to create something unbelievable.
As we drove away, one thought lingered: we will be back, and very soon!
