8 restaurants to visit for a good ol’ roast

7th June 2018 by Jayme Chong 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/best-roast-dinners-restaurants-in-singapore/

If you’re a meat-lover, you may be aware that finding a restaurant in Singapore that serves a mean roast for brunch, lunch or dinner can be tough ask. Good news: we’ve scoured the island to seek out the best of the best! Here, from traditional British spreads to local meaty feasts, is our list of recommendations.

Hearty beef Sunday roast, LeVeL33, roast
LeVeL33’s popular hearty beef roast option from its Sunday roast menu

#1 LeVeL33

Housed in the penthouse of Marina Bay Financial Centre, LeVeL33 doesn’t just offer amazing views of Marina Bay and the city skyline; it also does a great contemporary Sunday roast. The menu features a selection of hearty meats ($38), with popular options being beef and spring chicken, all served with Sunday trimmings – English roast potatoes, oven-baked pumpkin, carrots and red onion.

8 Marina Boulevard, #33-01 Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1

#2 Café Melba

Café Melba has two outlets – one in the east and the other in the west – both offering the same menu, which includes its famous weekend roast ($30), succulent beef slices with roasted vegetables and Yorkshire pudding, offered from 11am.

Branches at Goodman Arts Centre and Mediapolis

Affordable Sunday roast at Muddy Murphy’s

#3 Muddy Murphy’s

This Irish pub offers an affordable Sunday roast ($24 for two courses; $29 for three courses; from 11.30am to 3.45pm) that changes every week. If you can’t wait till Sunday, you can enjoy a dish of traditional roast beef ($19) daily – slow-roasted, hand-carved prime beef smothered in homemade gravy and served with creamy mash, daily vegetables and Yorkshire pudding.

442 Orchard Road, #01-02 to 05 Claymore Connect

#4 Carvers & Co

Food served at this neighbourhood eatery is all about roast meats, so meat lovers can look forward to hearty meals such as The Carvers Plate, a trio of meats with potatoes, onions and garlic confit, and the bone-in prime rib, a New Zealand grass-fed prime rib with chimichurri herb sauce, crispy fries and garlic confit.

Weekend roast, SPRMKRT Kitchen & Bar, roast
Delish weekend roast offered at SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar

#5 SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar

This European bistro-style restaurant offers a weekend roast ($34) for brunch which consists of either wagyu rump or roasted pork belly accompanied by freshly baked Yorkshire pudding, sautéed mixed mushrooms, roasted rosemary potatoes, vine-ripened tomatoes and homemade ricotta cream. Yum!

41 Robertson Quay, #02-01

#6 Lawry’s The Prime Rib

Located in the heart of Orchard, Lawry’s is well-known for its signature roasted USDA prime rib of beef that is slow-cooked then delivered to the table on a silver cart, carved, and served with Yorkshire pudding. For a side with a difference, try the famous original spinning bowl salad.

333A Orchard Road, #04-01/31 Mandarin Gallery

Weekend roast, Oxwell & Co, roast
Traditional British Sunday roast, anyone?

#7 Oxwell & Co

Look forward to traditional British roasts every Sunday from 12pm to 4pm at Oxwell, with favourite items including roast Westholme beef (a full-blood black wagyu ramp cap, $38), Dingley Dell pork belly ($28), spatchcock half chicken ($26) and mushroom, leek and spinach pie with aged cheddar ($17), all of which are accompanied by tasty trimmings including roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. Read our full review on this Brit-inspired resto.

5 Ann Siang Road, Chinatown

#8 Kay Lee Roast Meat Joint

If you’re keen to try a local take on a roast, Kay Lee should be on your list. This meat joint is well-known for its unique roasts that are cooked using a recipe that’s unchanged for over 45 years. Don’t miss the popular roast duck, which is crispy on the outside and glistening and succulent on the inside.

Jayme Chong

Jayme lives and breathes pop culture, so don't expect her to stop blabbering if you bring up Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, Jennifer Aniston, Kendall Jenner or F.R.I.E.N.D.S (there's obviously more!). She also dreams of travelling and living abroad - New York City to be exact, which probably explains her aspiration to work in media and publishing.

The rain and cold winds getting you down? A warm beverage and maybe a good book to snuggle up to might just chase the blues away!

If hot chocolate is too mainstream for you, could we offer up this red velvet alternative? @littlefarms have a wide selection of oat milks, almond milks and soy milk options.

Since it's #Veganuary, we recommend using dairy free milks to recreate this recipe....

2 cups non-dairy milk of choice
4 medjool dates (pitted)
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1/2 teaspoon beet powder

Add the milk and dates into a saucepan.
Heat, over medium, until it reaches a simmer. Add the warm milk with the dates and the remaining ingredients into a high speed blender.
Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Serve and enjoy!

As we welcome the start of a new year, it’s time to look back at the year that was.

Obviously, a standard review of 2020 would be dominated by one global issue, however, we’ve decided to avoid any mention of the C-word and instead, we’re taking a look at some of the other things that happened in 2020
month by month, from pop culture phenomena to mystery objects in our deserts and skies (full link in our stories)
