If you’ve been looking for a ‘good barbershop near me’, Will I Shave could be it. Over the years, gents have been returning to barber and founder Will for his signature services including custom haircuts, beard shaping and shaves. The barbershop has recently relocated to a new spot at 25 Hoot Kiam Road, Shop B, just around the corner from Great World shopping mall – a cosier, more private space where gents can relax with a complimentary whisky or beer while getting groomed.
Here, we sit down with Will to find out more about his story – and we also sent an EL reader over for a first-hand review of Will I Shave’s cut and shave!

A bit more about this Singapore barber
What made you decide to open Will I Shave?
I’ve been doing hair since my teens, starting from a local brand before moving to well-known salons. In 2023, I decided to specialise in men’s grooming. I opened Will I Shave because I wanted a space of my own, where I could be myself and not work under someone’s brand.
Tell us about your approach at Will I Shave.
I’ve been working with various hair types since my early days, whether it’s fine Caucasian hair or thicker Asian hair. At my barbershop near Great World, haircuts are tailored to suit each individual’s needs and wants. No two cuts are the same because different hair textures and types require different approaches. That’s why a consultation is always done before each service. Beyond haircuts, we also provide a top-notch scalp treatment which focuses on deep cleaning for the scalp.

What makes a good barber in your opinion?
Someone who doesn’t do one cut for all. Hair types are different, face shapes are different, so it’s important to make sure the cut suits you.
What do you love most about what you do?
Being able to meet new people and being able to groom them into better versions of themselves.

An EL reader recently visited Will I Shave for a custom cut and shave. Here’s what he thought!
I came to Will I Shave after hearing many good things about their haircuts – I was after something more tailored than my usual quick trims. Will was attentive and knowledgeable, starting with a proper wash and a super relaxing scalp massage before carefully analysing my facial features. I’ve had the same hairstyle for years, so I was surprised to hear from Will all the different styles that my square face could pull off. While I wasn’t quite ready for a totally new look, he still took the time to discuss what might work down the line. I really appreciated this level of attention and detail.
During the cut, Will introduced me to his layering technique. He alternated between multiple scissors to create structure – short at the base, fuller as it moved upward. He pointed out (with a laugh) that my middle section from my previous cut was too long, giving me a “shark” look. Fair! Carefully, he shaped everything to suit my head shape and showed me how to style both with and without product. The result was clean, professional and fresh.
The short beard was a pleasant surprise. Instead of having it all shaved off like I usually do, Will experimented with a style that suited my face. Using an old-fashioned razor, he explained the merits of a double blade over electric shavers, then settled on a nicely shaped stubble with “Doctor Strange” vibes. It was my first time trying it and I love it!
Will’s expertise and passion for his work were obvious, and the experience was great from start to finish. The barbershop is convenient too, just a few minutes walk from Great World MRT.
