Things to Do with Kids in Hong Kong

Hong Kong has plenty to offer for a family holiday. If you’ve already done Disneyland and Ocean Park, check out these places for some family fun – there’s everything from a ship simulator to a ninja obstacle course! (Don’t forget to keep in mind current restrictions and the possibility of temporary closures; check websites for specific details for each venue.)

#1 Lost Hong Kong

Ready to get lost? This reality escape game sees participants locked inside a ‘scenario room’, with 45 minutes on the clock to find a way out. Work as a team to solve puzzles and perform actions and you’ll soon see the light of day! Keep an eye out for Lost Junior, which is designed specifically for ages six to 14.

#2 Hong Kong Science Museum

Need a break from shopping? While you’re in Tsim Sha Tsui, head to this popular museum that boasts over 500 exhibits, many of which are interactive and great for kids. The hands-on displays cover everything from ancient Egyptian history to modern technology.

#3 GoNature

Whether it’s the indoor or outdoor variety, climbing is growing in popularity as a pastime for kids and adults alike, and GoNature is one place where everyone can get their fix. It has a wide range of climbing and bouldering routes, with activities including parent-child climbs; plus, you can book birthday parties and social gatherings here. If you’re on the island side, you can try Verm City, near the Quarry Bay MTR station.

#4 Tai Kwun

Take the kids and explore this unique heritage site. There are courtyards to run around in and storytelling spaces to explore (check out the jail cells in the Barrack Block). There’s often a special exhibition on too; check the website.

#5 Inspiration Lake

If the weather’s fine, enjoy an outing at this picturesque public park near Disneyland. Pack a picnic, go for a stroll and take in the water views. Pedal boats and bikes are available for rent from 10am to 5pm.

#6 Dream Come True Education Park

Got a long wait for your flight home? Keep the kids happy at this edu-tainment centre at Hong Kong International Airport. They’ll have the chance to role-play various occupations including pilot, doctor and astronaut, with little outfits to boot!

#7 The Rink @ Elements HK

Escape the heat at one of the many ice-skating rinks in the city. Catering to a variety of ages and abilities, The Rink allows first-time skaters and learners to rent “penguin” balancing devices (there are seals, bears and dolphins too) to help with moving around. Payment can be made by the minute using your Octopus card.

#8 SuperPark

This is a great day out of kids of all ages. SuperPark is a huge facility in Kowloon that features interactive sports games, a skate/scoot bowl, slides, indoor rock climbing, trampolines and a whole bunch more. They also offers school holiday activities and kids parties.

#9 Ryze Ultimate Trampoline Park

Release a bit of energy at this mega park in Quarry Bay on Hong Kong Island. Great for active kids, it features more than 40 trampolines, including foam pits, trapezes and angled-wall trampolines – even a ninja obstacle course for a dose of stealthy fun.

Cost: From HK$95 per child for a one-hour session

#10 Hong Kong Maritime Museum

Located at Pier 8, close to the Star Ferry dock, this museum is a good one for the whole family with more than a dozen galleries, including a simulator that gives kids the chance to experience what it’s like to drive a ship right into Victoria Harbour!

#11 Lasermads

Young adults will love a visit to this spaceship-themed laser tag spot in Causeway Bay. Get your competitive game on as you form teams and head into the arena to battle it out.

#12 Hong Kong Wetland Park

If you love nature, visit this interactive educational centre that showcases wetland flora and fauna. Check out the butterfly garden, visit Pui Pui the saltwater crocodile and spot other creatures along the mangrove boardwalk.
