As the size of our living spaces decreases, dining rooms often no longer exist and dining areas don’t operate as just places to eat. They are now work and meeting places, home offices, craft benches, homework spaces and small business production areas! We spoke to several readers about which shops in Singapore they found dining room tables that were perfect for them.

My business, B28, has become synonymous with all things whisky in Singapore – whisky investment, education and appreciation. I was looking for a significant and striking table for private whisky tastings, dinners and events. It needed to seat at least 20 people but also have the flexibility to be reduced to six for smaller events.
We found a long, heavy, wooden 22-seater at Gallery 278. We worked with the team there to design a dining table that looked seamless when joined together but equally as stylish when used separately. It’s now perfectly placed in our events space beneath our skylight with a projector wall at the end. It was a perfect solution to our business and aesthetic needs.
I loved that all the pieces at Gallery 278 are made from recycled teak; which has beautiful wood patina and is sustainably sourced according to good forestry practices. We selected the classic Element Dining Table for B28, which brings a touch of warmth and organic style to our space. Gallery 278 has also given us the option of storing one or more of the dining table pieces when we have different dinner setting arrangements as an additional service.

When we moved to Singapore from the UK, we didn’t bring all of our furniture. We like entertaining and wanted to have an excellent table that would act as a centrepiece for the household. Having seen a number of print and online references to Grey and Sanders, we decided to visit their showroom near Tiong Bahru. The store was brilliant, as were the staff – so helpful and welcoming, and nothing too much trouble for them. We purchased a handcrafted American black walnut slab-topped “live edge” table and bench. It’s a delightful natural addition to the hard marble floors in our condo.
We really love our table – it’s a beautiful piece of wood and creates a warm and inviting ambience. We have a large family, with two children in the UK and three in Australia. They all travel a lot and we look forward to them staying with us frequently. The fun of cooking and eating together has always been a key part of our lives. Many friends also visit us, so having a great space to entertain is important. We found the support and understanding of the young team at Grey and Sanders was unparalleled.

Arriving in Singapore with no furniture, we decided to buy everything new here. The furniture from our home in the US was not the right style as our apartment was more modern. For the dining room, we wanted a table that would seat eight comfortably for entertaining, in a unique material other than just wood. It also needed to blend into the colour palette and décor of our home.
We decided to work with Naazli at Window to the Past for our needs. The first time we met her, she was just so lovely and we could see from their showroom that they had items that would work in our home. The dining table we picked out is 2.1 metres long; it has a marble top with a custom teak base. We then picked out eight chairs in a complementary fabric to what we have in the living room. We just love the look of the colours and pattern in the marble – it’s not your ordinary dining room table!
We love all the furniture we’ve bought from Window to the Past – from bedside tables to dressers, to an entire living room set, and outdoor furniture. Naazli even took me to Haji Lane to pick out an area rug, and she had plants delivered for the terrace. No stone was left unturned.

We had just moved into a new house and after six years we realised Singapore would now be home, so we decided to get rid of the cheap furniture we’d bought originally.
We set out to look for a table that could seat a family of four and grow to accommodate a gathering of at least 12 people. As we love to entertain, an extendable table was a must. We also wanted a good-quality solid wood piece. Soul & Tables has a great reputation for quality furniture. We loved the showroom and wanted a few matching pieces for our home and they had a great collection. Our pick was a solid oak double extendable dining table (from two to three metres). It caught our eye because it was beautiful – streamlined and sharp, and the wood was the perfect lightness to match our mainly white décor.
When we found out it seated eight but easily extended with one hand to seat 14, we were sold! The table gets used for everyday dining and entertaining. My hubby does his work on it, and the kids use it to study.
Most interestingly, though, it was the table I used to start my home business, Lush Platters! I made all my platters on this table in the beginning. (I’ve since moved to a commercial kitchen.) We love all our pieces from Soul & Tables including a matching console, a queen-size bed, coffee table and TV unit.

We recently moved into a new apartment and the layout was very different from our previous home. Our old table, which was quite large, just didn’t fit in the new space, so we needed something compact and comfortable for everyday use. It still needed to accommodate six to eight people and be formal enough for our dining room. I have purchased many items from Taylor B over the years, all of which have helped make our Singapore apartment feel more like a home.
Apart from the beautiful and functional pieces available, Taylor B also provides excellent service. The entire team, from the sales representatives to the delivery team are honest, fair and helpful. We settled on a round glass-top dining table with a champagne-coloured base by Caracole and six upholstered chairs.
Due to its central location in our home, we use the table for many things other than dining. It’s a great place to just sit and talk but comfortable enough for the kids to sit at and work on their homework. I’ve had a wonderful experience decorating our home with Stephanie’s help! She has been lovely throughout and her delivery team has consistently been helpful, respectful and courteous. We’re very happy with our purchases and would absolutely buy from Taylor B in the future – it has become our go-to spot for our furnishings.

I was looking for a suitable outdoor dining table set that could be extended to ten people, and also an outdoor sofa set for the yard on the top level of my house. Usually, I host friends and family here for a relaxed evening or even a barbecue. Natural Living has the widest range of outdoor furniture with actual pieces on site for viewing, which really helped in making the right decision.
I purchased a six-seat, extendable dining table for outdoors, a three-seat outdoor sofa with two single seats, a coffee table, magazine racks and a swing to beautify that part of the house. The table makes the whole area very usable; it’s beautiful and blends really well with the rest of the pieces.
The staff at Natural Living were patient, honest and sincere. I appreciated that there was no forced selling. Their recommendations suited my specific needs and they even provided a demonstration for me. I’m really happy with my purchase and will definitely buy from them again.

We already had a beautiful but small dining table but as my boys grew up we needed more space to eat together. Mind you, both of the boys are over six foot tall! We also have lots of family visiting us from India so a small table was very inconvenient.
We discovered The Past Perfect Collection six years ago. We finally felt we’d found one place that matched our taste and delivered on the quality we wanted. Most importantly, each and every piece was a beautiful reminder of the past, restored perfectly to sit elegantly in our home.
We have now purchased a number of pieces from Past Perfect, including two ebony chairs, the dining table, a bed for the master bedroom and a console for the foyer. Most of the pieces are in rosewood, which is hard to come by but is beautiful and timeless. They’re the kind of pieces I know I will never get bored of.

Our old table needed replacing, as we wanted to downsize from an eight- to a six-seater. We were also looking for a good solid, antique wood piece. Woody Antique House are very professional, and they have a wide selection and variety of quality furniture available. Nothing is too difficult for them. Even if you have a design in mind or picture of what you require, they will go out of their way to get it custom built.
We ended up purchasing a six-seat solid antique wood dining table with matching buffet. When we decided we wanted a matching TV unit, Woody Antique were able to organise a build unit from our design to match, as they did not have exactly what we wanted in stock. The dining room table is very much a multipurpose table; meals, work, Susan’s beading table and Thursday afternoon Mahjong table with friends. We now wouldn’t consider going anywhere else for our furniture. Woody Antique House offers quality furniture, a friendly service, they are obliging and the price is right!
