PAULA KENNEALLY, moved from Ireland to Singapore with her husband nine years ago and they’re now parents to Riley, a Singapore Special! She’s also the Executive Director of the Irish Chamber of Commerce and she shares chats with us about the chamber, who’s involved and what events and activities are on the table, or should we say the green?
Could you introduce the Chamber for readers who may not know about it?
The Irish Chamber of Commerce Singapore was founded in 2010 as the successor to the Irish Business Association, which was originally established in 1992. Our aim is to connect and support the Irish business community here, while strengthening professional and commercial ties between Ireland and Singapore. The Chamber provides a platform where people can build meaningful relationships, exchange ideas and support each other professionally.
We’re a non-profit organisation, supported by an incredible group of companies and members across a wide range of industries in Singapore who champion what we do.
Who are your members?
While many of our members are Irish, the Chamber is very international. A large number of our members have a connection to Ireland through their university, workplace or personal networks.
People are often drawn to the Chamber because of the quality of the events, the connections they make, and the inclusive nature of the community. Our members genuinely go out of their way to support one another, both professionally and personally.
Singapore is such an international place, and the Chamber becomes a place where Irish professionals connect with people from all over the world. We also work closely with other chambers, which creates even more opportunities for networking and collaboration.
Tell us a bit about the activities and events for members.
We run a wide range of events throughout the year, from networking gatherings and speaker sessions to industryfocused discussions and community celebrations.
Our First Friday Breakfasts are a core part of our calendar – they bring people together for breakfast, followed by a speaker or panel on a relevant topic, with plenty of time afterwards for discussion and connection.
We also organise training sessions to support our members’ professional development, and regularly partner with Irish business agencies on events that strengthen commercial ties between Ireland and Singapore.
Alongside this, larger flagship events happen during the year, including our annual Ireland-Singapore Golf Day, which takes place each September, bringing together members, partners and the wider business community.
What has been your favourite moment from a recent event?
One standout moment recently was our March First Friday Breakfast, hosted as part of International Women’s Day.
The panel was incredibly engaging but what really stood out was the openness of the conversation and the level of audience participation during Q&A – people were sharing experiences and asking thoughtful questions.
It was one of those mornings where you could feel the impact in the room – people stayed on long after the session ended, continuing conversations over coffee and making new connections.
How long is a membership period and what can a member expect during this time?
Membership runs for one year. During that time, members can attend a wide range of events and become part of a highly active business and social community.
