Hospital prices in Singapore: We compare medical treatments across 10 clinics

19th December 2017 by Expat Living 5 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/hospital-prices-in-singapore-we-compare-medical-treatments-across-10-clinics/

Very few things are cheap in Singapore, and while most expat professionals living in Singapore enjoy a pretty comfortable standard of living, affording a major medical procedure can be pretty tough for most people. So to help you work out how much you’d be expected to pay for medical treatments in Singapore, here’s a guide to prices for eight of the most common conditions and ailments in Singapore’s 10 best hospitals.More interesting than you'd think

Standard Treatments

The procedures included in this comparison are intended to provide a cross-section of the care often needed by expats. They include:

  • Routine appendectomy without rupture or other extreme complications
  • Bronchitis requiring hospitalisation
  • Standard labor and delivery both by caesarean section (listed first) and routine (listed second) delivery methods
  • Hospitalization for heart attack which requires angioplasty and an implanted stint
  • Standard knee repair surgery such as tendon or ligament repair
  • Myopia or lasik surgery for both eyes simultaneously
  • Kidney stone treatment and pain relief requiring lithotripter shock-wave therapy
  • Sebaceous cyst or non-malignant tumor removal

Standard Fees

In order to calculate expected hospitals fees, the averages shown below represent the average cost of equivalent care performed by the individual hospital. Naturally, this may vary based on the specific case and prescribed treatment. These costs are based on data provided by the listed hospitals themselves for actual procedures and care administered during the September 1 2012 to August 31 2013 fiscal year. (Although bear in mind that it is still possible for fees to change at any time without warning.)

Accommodation Differences

While all hospitals in Singapore offer excellent medical care, the accommodation available to patients vary widely. Private Hospitals typically offer patients a choice of a private luxury suite, private single patient room, or semi-private double patient room, in descending order of cost. All feature air-conditioning, TV, and meals as standard, with other options available at extra cost.

Public hospitals have far more choices, including private single-patient rooms, known as “A” Class wards and “B” Class multiple-patient (usually two or three) wards – all with air-conditioning, TV, and meals. Finally, the budget-friendly-but-spartan “C” Class economy wards host five or six patients sharing a space, often without air-conditioning, meals, or other creature comforts. For this comparison, “C” Class wards have been excluded as they are very rarely selected by expatriates.

Guys: did you know that your skin is structurally different from that of ladies? For most men, androgen (testosterone) stimulation results in skin that’s thicker and tougher than women’s skin. This also means you might need something more than just your wife’s, mum’s or sister’s moisturiser or face wash!

Lumin was founded on this concept; this California-based online store offers simple yet effective skincare for men, tailored to different skin types and concerns. So, whether you’re looking for a good face cleanser or a moisturiser for men, this is one brand to check out.

To differentiate Lumin from other men’s skincare brands, founders Richard Hong and Darwish Gani flew to South Korea to work on formulas that benefit the thicker and more stubborn skin constructs of men. Most of the ingredients used are powerful plant-based extracts like ginger root, rosemary, coffee and shea butter. The paraben-free and cruelty-free brand also makes a point of avoiding unnecessary nasties commonly associated with popular off-the-shelf products.

If it’s your first time shopping for men’s skincare, you’ll be glad to know that the Lumin experience is simple and fuss-free. Just fill out a brief questionnaire and you’ll get a personalised skincare regime that’s suited to your skin type and lifestyle. You can choose to go with a one-time purchase or have your products delivered on a subscription basis. Alternatively, shop from the curated range of skincare sets catered to different budgets and preferences.

The rain and cold winds getting you down? A warm beverage and maybe a good book to snuggle up to might just chase the blues away!

If hot chocolate is too mainstream for you, could we offer up this red velvet alternative? @littlefarms have a wide selection of oat milks, almond milks and soy milk options.

Since it's #Veganuary, we recommend using dairy free milks to recreate this recipe....

2 cups non-dairy milk of choice
4 medjool dates (pitted)
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1/2 teaspoon beet powder

Add the milk and dates into a saucepan.
Heat, over medium, until it reaches a simmer. Add the warm milk with the dates and the remaining ingredients into a high speed blender.
Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Serve and enjoy!
