Treat yourself to a home massage!

2nd April 2020 by Anthia Chng 2 Min Read

Stiff neck, tight shoulders, back pain – sound familiar? Besides proper stretching, massage is a really effective way to loosen up the muscles – and it helps you relax and feel less stressed too. It’s definitely been an uncertain and worrying time with the COVID-19 crisis playing on all our minds. And, since many of us are trying to stay indoors as much as possible, the thought of enjoying a complete spa experience without leaving home sounded perfect. That’s why I reviewed a home massage by Aleyda Mobile Spa – it’s a wonderful way to look after yourself and unwind (and perhaps treat whoever else is behaving themselves at home!).

This mobile spa was set up in 2010 with the intention of helping people heal through massage therapy. The idea behind it? When you’re feeling pained, drained or strained, making the extra effort to go out for a treatment can be challenge. That’s why they’re bringing the spa to you!

Aleyda Mobile Spa review

“My therapist Ira arrives 10 minutes before my appointment time to set up the ‘spa’ station, which is essentially in my tiny living room. If, like me, you’re concerned about space, it shouldn’t be an issue. You only need the size of a single bed (plus some wiggle room for the therapist to walk around) for the massage bed. You can expect a complete spa experience with the setup; there’s even a speaker playing soothing music in the background!

I fill out a compulsory health declaration form, while Ira sets up the space with fresh linen and disinfects the bed – especially important during this period. Aleyda has a comprehensive list of health and safety measures, which you can read more about on the site.

I dim my lights (it makes all the difference!) and Ira begins the signature Aleyda body massage ($165, 90 minutes) with a pressure-point technique to open up the lymph nodes. After that, she applies firm and long strokes using ‘Tranquility’, a calming, dreamy blend of geranium, bergamot, ylang-ylang and lavender essential oils. My shoulders are tight and slightly rounded from years of bad posture, so I request for her to focus on them. The pressure is spot on – it feels sore but it’s not unbearably painful – and I feel the tension slowly release with her skilful hands.

I drift in and out of slumberland, stirring occasionally, then finally waking up properly at the end of 90 blissful minutes. Ira is out of the door after packing up the mobile spa in just under five minutes. That night, I sleep like a baby – the best sleep I’ve had in a while! The next morning, my tense shoulders are less tight and my head feels magically lighter. I should make this a regular!” – Anthia Chng

Other options

Indulge in a back massage or foot reflexology – or why not get both ($165, 90 minutes)? We think they’re the perfect recharge at the end of a busy day, or a well-deserved lunch-hour boost in between work. The mobile spa also offers professional prenatal and postnatal massage for pregnant ladies and new mums.
