Australian International School Singapore tailors learning and guidance to each student’s aspirations and university applications
The Australian International School Singapore (AIS) recognises that everyone follows a unique path from school to the next phase of their life. In their last two years at the school, AIS students can choose from two pathways, the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) and the Higher School Certificate. As they move towards university applications or work experience opportunities, they receive personalised support in various ways, including from the CPC (Careers & Pathways Counselling) team.
According to ANJELICA GKOURIS, the Head of Careers at AIS, the most common questions students ask are how to select the right university course from the choices available, and the entry pathways and admission requirements for specific programmes or university applications.
She adds, “There’s no one-size-fits-all approach – our team works with each student individually on their personal journey and goals.
The team generally focuses on three aspects:
- Self-reflection – encouraging students to explore their interests, talents and strengths, including helping them identify what they enjoy doing, their skills and how they like to interact with others.
- Exploration – guiding them through exploring career paths and university courses aligned with their interests and strengths, while helping them consider their goals and aspirations for adult life.
- Planning and action – supporting them in creating actionable plans, such as preparing applications, navigating transitions and achieving their future goals.
- This support structure is bolstered by other AIS initiatives that help students build the skills they need for lifelong learning and career success. These might include talks with medical professionals, workshops with forensic scientists, personal statement crafting workshops, tertiary fairs, visits from top global universities, and other talks from industry leaders.
From AIS to the world
A rigorous academic curriculum combined with support from the Secondary Academic Team helped AIS graduates achieve exceptional academic results in 2024. In the 2024 International Baccalaureate DP, the average score of AIS students was 33.3 out of 45, surpassing the global average of 29.2. Additionally, 45.1 percent of the students achieved 35+ IB points and a total of 18 students were awarded a Bilingual Diploma.
More important for AIS is the confidence that their students have secured their best-fit offers from their university application. The cohort of approximately 100 students each year receive university placements globally. The school’s graduates have gone to over 15 different countries including Australia, New Zealand, the US, the UK, Japan, Korea, Canada, the Netherlands and Singapore. Some of the top institutions include the University of Cambridge, Stanford University, Brown University, University of Sydney and Monash University.
Hear from a new graduate…
“I plan to study law in the UK. Now that I’m done with the International Baccalaureate Diploma, I feel like the well roundedness of it has taught me valuable lessons and given me educational experiences that I will carry with me in my future studies and career.” – Rae-lin (Sophie), Class of 2024
