A weekend getaway in Hong Kong at the Grand Hyatt

By: Rebecca Bisset

If you’re yet to visit Hong Kong, or it’s been a while since you were in the iconic Asian city, we suggest you make a plan to get there this year. There are some great HK deals to take advantage of, plus it’s nice and cool at this time if you need a break from Singapore’s hot weather. A particularly special time to hit Hong Kong in early 2015 will be Chinese New Year, plus Valentine’s Day is coming up (there are many romantic spots in Hong Kong, lads!).

Why not tag a special weekend onto the back of a business trip like I did recently? I spent a couple of nights in one of the Grand Hyatt’s newly renovated rooms, which overlooked the harbour and Kowloon. The harbour rooms offer a lovely view by daylight, but it’s even better at night!

My recent trip was my second visit to the hotel in a few years and, while the breakfast buffet remains consistently great (and is one of my favourites), the new rooms are now more feminine and homely. The bathrooms have the option of being open plan or private, there’s a couple of lovely art pieces and the beds are wonderful. You’ll also notice gorgeous additions, such as the lights in the bathroom are the shape of flowers. Essentially, you get all the perks of a top class business hotel along with that holiday feel.

What else can you do in Hong Kong? You can see our top 12 HK activities here, but I think there is much more to see than The Peak and the main shopping areas. Hong Kong is a great place for walking and hiking, there are scenic bus rides to places like Stanley Market, plus ferry rides over to Macau. Or you can choose to make it romantic and never leave the room – except for breakfast, that is!

The Grand Hyatt’s new Weekend Getaway package starts on the 1st January 2015 and includes a 15 percent discount on the daily rate, plus either free breakfast or HK$500 to spend at the spa or at one of their F&B outlets. Note all the booking Ts and Cs on this page.

My tip: I had a fantastic massage at the Grand Hyatt’s Plateau Spa with Kitty the masseuse, which was a great way to start the weekend.
