With her signature eclectic interior design she’s been assisting families all over Singapore to create stylish spaces.
We love meeting creative people! Tells us the story behind your interior decoration business.
Ever since I was a small child in Indonesia, I’ve been passionate about the arts. At university I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in interior design. My career began in luxury lifestyle and fashion. While learning the ropes in high-end business, I cultured myself about the importance of having an eye for detail and providing premium customer service. This grounding shaped me to incorporate my creativity with top-notch quality and professionalism.
I moved to Singapore eight years ago and love living here with my husband and three children. I’ve always dreamt of creating beautiful homes, so it felt like a natural step to move into interior design.
Initially, I worked as a freelance interior stylist in a well-known home styling company in Singapore, but when the pandemic hit, this opportunity ended. I decided to take the liberty of accepting jobs on my own. Gradually, small projects for friends turned into bigger jobs for real clients, all just by word of mouth. I’m very grateful for the trust people have given me and every opportunity that has come my way. I feel lucky to have recently opened my own showroom on Tanglin Road!
What types of interior design services do you offer?
Whether you’re looking to redecorate a living room or transform an entire house, I’m here to help guide you through the whole process. With my experienced team I conceptualise the design, select materials, find furniture, curate accessories and add finishing touches on makeover day. I’ve also started to take on some renovation projects too.
Do you have a signature interior decoration style that attracts clients?
I would define my style as “Contemporary Eclectic interior design”. I grew up admiring Art Deco, colonial design and tropical style. As I grow older, I’ve started to fall in love with the geometric shapes and luxurious textures in contemporary design. I think that’s why I love mixing a few different styles, keeping it neat but still cosy. In my opinion, that’s the key to creating a beautiful yet liveable home. And the advantage of loving eclectic interior design is that I understand how to bring into play different types of styles when required.
The beauty of an interior stylist’s work is reflected in their client’s faces. Tell us about a couple of Patria Home & Décor’s most memorable projects.
Tropical eclectic landed house
From the tropical architecture of the house to the eclectic style that my client requested, this project was the perfect outlet to express my authentic style. I was extremely happy that my client fully embraced my creativity as we shared the same taste! I was literally jumping up and down when chosen for this home makeover. It was completed within three months, and I had so much fun throughout the whole wonderful interior decoration process.
Coastal condo
For me, it’s never about the size of the project, it’s about how my experience and skill can create a dream home for my client. I do my best work when the client trusts me 100 percent to guide the process completely. The brief was to create a coastal Hamptonsstyle fitout for a newly purchased resale condo. The clients wanted to feel like they live in a holiday home every day. I was engaged from the beginning of the renovation process – creating a mood board, helping choose the right materials during the renovation and then styling the entire home.
Can you offer three key home styling tips to get readers started?
Firstly, you must understand the style you’re aiming for, so you have a clear guideline to start with. Secondly, decide on a colour palette and stick with these tones when choosing paint, furniture and home décor pieces. Lastly, when styling a home, your eyes need to travel around the space to make sure everything flows. Playing with different heights gives balanced proportion and lets colour flow between different areas of the home.
What is the most satisfying element of your job?
The most rewarding thing is knowing that my work has contributed to improving people’s lives. Good design and home styling is not actually about how it looks, it’s more about how it works in their daily life. A client that is happy with their interior decoration is the best reward, and this is the pure satisfaction as a designer.
