Holiday camps for child development
Among the many holiday camps open to the public at the Integrated International School (IIS) is the new Kids Olympic Camp. We find out how these well-rounded experiences are part of the school’s effort in supporting each child’s development physically, socially and emotionally.
High-energy engagement with an Olympic Games theme
The new Kids Olympic Camp running in September this year will bring the excitement and competitiveness of the Olympic Games through a wide range of themed, age-appropriate sports and creative activities.
The IIS team says that the idea behind the holiday camp is to encourage physical activity, teamwork and sportsmanship in a high-energy, inclusive environment. The friendly challenges based around the Olympic Games will promote movement, coordination and healthy competition.
Activities in the Kids Olympic Camp include:
- Paper Plate Skating
- Clothespin Relay
- Basketball and Soccer
- Javelin (with paper planes)
- Shot Put (with compressed paper balls)
- Sprinting
- Tennis
- Badminton
During the week, they’ll also prepare and design craft-based items such as a paper soccer team, basketball hoops, mini paddles, and their very own flags and medals.
Then, on the final day of this Olympic holiday camp, the kids will participate in final events and tally the results during a medal challenge. During the award ceremony, they’ll have the opportunity to show off the medals that they have designed earlier in the week.
More importantly, they will be celebrated for their efforts and achievements at the closing ceremony.
More kids’ holiday camps at IIS for child development
By taking part in holiday camps at IIS, children learn various skills and enjoy a range of different experiences. They become opportunities where students can grow personally and in their social connections. During the camps, kids are encouraged to be curious and stay active and connected, all within a safe, supportive environment.
The various types of holiday camps that run during the school break include:
- Creative arts camps
- Culinary camps
- Academic enrichment camps
- Sports and movement camps
Each type of holiday camp helps students to develop different skill sets. Depending on the camp, they may develop fine motor skills through art and craft projects, gain confidence in the kitchen with basic cooking techniques, strengthen communication and literacy through storytelling and role play, explore cultural awareness through themed activities and traditional crafts, or learn teamwork and strategy through sports and games.
The Kids Olympic Camp runs from 22 to 26 September and is suitable for ages four to 12 years (Kindergarten to Grade 6). The fee for the entire holiday camp is $600. For more information or to register, write to info@iis.edu.sg.
Integrated International School is at #01-01 Capital Square Two, 21 Church Street.
