Hiring domestic helpers in Singapore

3rd July 2022 by Expat Living 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/domestic-helpers-singapore-maid-agency/

For hiring domestic helpers in Singapore, you need to find a good maid agency in Singapore or a platform where you can access transfer maids – and know which interview questions to ask. If you’re already living here and in the process of hiring a domestic helper, you might have noticed it’s more difficult to hire a maid at the moment; and, with any hiring process, you need as much help as possible in getting it right

The White Glove Difference

White Glove is a maid agency doesn’t charge the domestic helper any fees. And they do a little match making, too.

They work hard to make sure there’s a good fit between employer and helper, rather than just giving you the person who happens to be sitting in our office.  They only deal with transfer and ex-Singapore or overseas helpers, too, so  they’re experienced, know the lay of the land here in Singapore, how to take the MRT and that sort of thing.

Perhaps one of the best things the American owner, JENNIFER YARBROUGH, does is use her lawyerly research skills to do thorough background checks above and beyond your typical agency. She does a social media check, gets references from former employers if available, and collects an extensive biodata to make sure she really knows the person she’s putting into your home.

Currently, the starting monthly salary for a Filipino helper is $650. For a transfer helper, you can expect to pay a minimum of $650, though the average is $750 to $900.

The White Glove Interview Guide has a sample of the questions you can ask to make your interview productive. If you find the right fit, having a helper in your home can truly be transforming for you and your family.

Transfer Helpers

TransferMaids.com is a brilliant platform that connects those looking for a maid to a selection of licensed maid agencies in Singapore in one easy place. No more surfing the net for hours: here you can find full-time maids, part-time maids, part-time caregivers, nannies and babysitters through their exclusive network. There’s also a choice of new maids, transfer maids and ex-Singapore maids.

While not a maid agency itself, TransferMaids showcases maids from a number of reputable maid agencies and gives prospective employers a quick overview of domestic workers’ details. You can discover where the maid is from, whether they’re new to Singapore, when they can start, and whether they have children themselves. The site provides information on maid costs and agency fees and gives advice on subjects such as home leave and rest days. It also answers your niggly questions such as: Can your maid wash your car? What time can she come home on her day off? Does she get public holidays? What happens if she gets pregnant?  You know, the things you worry about but daren’t say out loud.

Hiring domestic helpers Singapore through a professional agency

Hiring a helper in Singapore can be a complicated process. Consider your budget and let the maid agency know. This ensures that you aren’t wasting time with the wrong candidates. Also remember to take into account things like health insurance and agency fees.

By going through a professional, certified agency, you’ll eliminate the hassle and enjoy a much smoother process. Favent Employment Service has been in the business since 2019. The maid agency offers free consultations on FDW insurance as well as training programs for child care and spoken English. They can also help with hiring a maid for the elderly in Singapore.

Having a domestic helper in Singapore

As a first-timer, hiring a domestic helper can initially feel a bit unusual. But, as everyone here will attest, having home help in this climate can be so beneficial — especially for those of us juggling busy lives. Add to that pets, always-hungry humans and a partner who still leaves their socks on the floor and you’ll soon be wondering how you managed without!

Based on statistics by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), 252,600 Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs) were in employment as a domestic helper at the end of June 2020. This means that one in five Singapore households have live-in maids to manage household chores. This is great news for FDWs seeking work to provide for their families back home. However, research has also found that one in three maids fail to complete their standard two-year contract.

While reasons for this vary, one is due to a high frequency of mismatched maid and employer. MOM has since rolled out measures to help those looking for domestic help to find the right fit.
