What’s the best home water filter system for small spaces?

20th August 2021 by Patricea Chow 4 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/best-home-water-filter-system-for-drinking-water/

Two years ago, I lived in a rented flat with a small kitchen. When I asked my landlord for a home water filter system to get filtered drinking water, she hesitated. The counter-top already had many appliances and she didn’t want another one taking up space. There were other considerations, too: she didn’t want any drilling and wanted a water filtration system for home that was easy to transport if she were to relocate.

So we Googled “What’s the best water filter system for the home” and “Where to buy a filter for drinking water” for a solution that’s compact. Up popped many options for water filter systems and water filters. That made it harder to figure out the best solution for the kitchen.

As custom drinking solution providers, the folks at Swisspro know how confusing it can get so they’ve provided a checklist that you can use to find the best solution for your space. Plus a special deal just for Expat Living readers!

3 things to consider for the best water filtration system for home

#1 Where’s the optimal location to install a home water filter system?

You’ll have to consider the following:

  • Location of the nearest water point. This is where the system draws water from and highly likely to be the spot where you’ll install the filter for drinking water.
  • Amount of available space. This is a factor in deciding which is the most compatible water filter system for the home.
  • Whether your landlord allows drilling of the premises. If they don’t, it will limit the type of system that’s compatible.

To make things easier for you, Swisspro provides home visits to assess your location and suggest compatible solutions that suit your needs. These visits are non-obligatory and complimentary.

#2 Want more than just drinking water?

In a household, everyone’s drinking needs may differ; someone loves hot cocoa while another prefers sparkling or cold water. With years of experience catering to residences, restaurants, hotel rooms and more, Swisspro offers solutions for all these needs from a water filter system for home.

#3 What type of water filtration do you really need?

Although this is often mistaken as the least important, having a quality water filter system for home for drinking water is the whole point of your investment. A good system can directly affect the health and wellbeing of your household.

Here’s what to look out for:

Carbon Filtration for Chemical Removal

Carbon filters remove chlorine, arsenic, heavy metals such as lead and other chemicals that may cause harmful health effects over time. These can seep in from poorly maintained water tanks or leaking underground pipes. The carbon grade used in the filter for drinking water determines its effectiveness in absorbing chemicals; be aware of filters using lower grade powdered or granular carbon as they may only remove half the contaminants or less. Read more about it here.

Swisspro’s CarboSwiss is a Swiss-made carbon filter that uses a high performance activated carbon block with the highest adsorption rate of over 90%.

Barrier Filtration for Micro-organism Removal

Most solutions in the market use some form of synthetic membrane material consisting of collodion, nylon, polypropylene (thermoplastic) and polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon). The disadvantage of such membranes is that synthetic materials can leach into the drinking water. This strips essential minerals from the water and affects its nutritional value and taste.

Swisspro uses a proprietary-formulated Swiss-made ceramic filter, which is both natural and sustainable. With a 0.2 micron size, it can filter all bacteria that thrives in tap water while retaining essential minerals that give water its natural ‘sweet’ taste. The filter can be cleaned and used for up to five years in a typical residential home. This minimises waste, preserves the environment and makes it one of the best water filtration systems for the home.
