Co-living at Coliwoo Bukit Timah Fire Station
How’s this for a great concept? The conserved former Bukit Timah Fire Station now has a cool co-living space! As a big fan of using older buildings in whatever way we can, I’m very happy that Coliwoo has chosen this as its new “spot”. The refurbished building now blends its original architecture with modern interiors — reflecting Coliwoo’s expertise in revitalising heritage spaces — making it the perfect introduction for people relocating to Singapore.
If you run a company or you’re an HR person, co-living spaces are also a great option for staff. Here, we take a look at what Coliwoo offers and how it ticks the boxes for various aspects of relocating.
Choosing where to live in Singapore
Coliwoo recently listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) and is now one of the largest co-living operators in Singapore. With close to 4,000 room, it offers a community-centric living experience across its curated spaces. The Bukit Timah Fire Station location is close to a number of Singapore’s large green spaces – Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Bukit Batok Nature Park and Rifle Range Nature Park. It’s also immediately accessible to the Rail Corridor. You can go cycling and hiking on trails at the weekends – or before work, if you’re one of those early birds! Plus, there’s easy access to shopping malls like Beauty World Centre and Bukit Timah Plaza, supermarkets, public buses and two MRT stations.
Being social and involved
Starting off in a co-living space is ideal for newcomers to Singapore as you have an immediate community at your fingertips. What’s more, Coliwoo Bukit Timah Fire Station plans to offer a calendar of activities all year round to help you mix and mingle. Events will be co-created with tenants, cultural partners and grassroots groups. Expect everything from sunrise yoga sessions and sustainability fairs to seasonal festivals and creative workshops. The whole precinct has plenty of spaces for pop-ups, performances and public art, too.
Relocating to Singapore
Most expats when they first arrive here are either starting a new job or at least getting to know a new work team. And it can be overwhelming. That’s especially true when you’re also looking at apartments, deciding on a neighbourhood, buying furniture, finding the best home internet deals and more. Coliwoo’s flexible lease terms allow you to stay for as short as one night, six nights or even three months, without being locked into traditional long-term contracts. Short-term rentals with a flexible lease give you the time to settle in and take a while to look at those different neighbourhoods. You can also consider international school options if you’re here with family, and assess commuting times. In short, you get the chance to discover what areas appeal or work better for the stage of life you’re in.

More about the Bukit Timah Fire Station development
One of three fire stations built by the Singapore Fire Brigade in the wake of the Second World War, Bukit Timah Fire Station operated for almost half a century, from 1956 to 2005. In 2019, it was gazetted for conservation.
Today, the revitalised development has been curated to deliver a layered, lifestyle-driven experience for members and visitors alike. The Coliwoo co-living space itself will be complemented by morning pop-up cafés catering to hikers and cyclists along the Rail Corridor, a mix of retail and dining options, rotating artisan markets, micro-workshops, and craft-focused tenants such as urban farming, beer brewing, a swimming school and other experiential retailers.
Coming soon! Did you know there’s another upcoming Coliwoo launch in Singapore?
