To save you rushing around like a headless chicken all day getting things ready, or slaving over a hot stove and barely having time to speak to your guests, My Private Chef takes the hassle out of hosting dinner parties by doing all the shopping, preparation, cooking and table-setting. The chef clears up after himself, so all you need do is put the dirty glasses and tableware into a crate for collection the next day.
So, how did Crystal Chua come up with the concept? “I grew up in a family that runs a Chinese Teochew restaurant, and I host a lot of parties for my friends,” she says. “I enjoy cooking, but imagined it would be difficult to get help if I couldn’t cook but wanted to host a gourmet dinner for my friends. I bounced the idea off a few friends who are either chefs or love to wine and dine, and they all loved it.”
She has gathered together a number of talented chefs who will come to your home to create a special dinner. Each chef specialises in a different cuisine, and customers can browse their biographies and suggested menus to decide who is right for them. Prices start at $95 per person for a three-course meal excluding wine.
Damien Le Bihan, Group Executive Chef of Déliciae Hospitality Management, who runs L’Entrecôte, Sabio, 83, Forlino and Le Petit Cancale, has recently joined as a private chef. From $300 per person, Damien will prepare a four-course French menu for your guests.
“To complete the exclusive dining experience,” adds Crystal, “the private chef will come out of the kitchen to introduce each course personally.”
The icing on the cake, however, is the table setting, which is included in the price of the dinner. Crystal and creative director Marc Teng come up with a special theme for every dinner party. The crockery, cutlery and linen is specially bought or made, and they create handmade menus, napkin holders and place cards to suit the chosen theme – it’s the kind of thing you drool over in home décor or food magazines.
“Marc is constantly on the lookout for beautiful accessories to create unique table settings,” says Crystal. “Since our table settings must complement exclusive dining experiences that can never be repeated, we reinvent and push our creativity for every party.”
To make the evening even more memorable, the Butler Service can provide extra touches such as flowers, serving staff, sommeliers, musicians and mixologists for an additional cost.
