You’d be hard-pressed to visit any English country house and not find a Chinese ceramic or two! From the 16th century onwards, porcelain imported from the East was used to decorate and enhance, to show status, breeding and good taste. By Georgian times, Chinoiserie was all the rage. And by the mid-1900s, it had become an integral part of the chintz and comfortable charm of the “English country house style”.

Mrs Bennet’s new Ginger Jar Lamp Collection builds on this long tradition. Each ginger jar is shaped on the wheel by a skilled potter in Jingdezhen (the region that is to Chinese ceramic production, what Staffordshire is to England), painted by hand then fired in a clay kiln. Each piece is also unique and bears its maker’s mark.
