First impressions: Korean-Mexican fusion bistro-bar, housed in a small shophouse in vibrant Tanjong Pagar. Keep your eyes peeled, as the sign outside reads “The da bang” (the bar’s daytime persona). The small but high-ceilinged interior has an industrial look, with exposed copper pipes on one side and a chalkboard wall on the other, where patrons can leave little messages for a fun touch.
The chosen one: The Beerita ($22) – a bottle of Corona perched on top of, and cascading into, a margarita. Or, there’s a good selection of easygoing wines here, too – we shared a bottle of Oyster Bay Pinot Noir ($59).
The cheapskate: They mix up a mean mojito for just $14.
Bite on this: We “took down” an array of Mexican fusion fare, including kimchi fries ($18) – think juicy fries topped with pulled pork and layered with sauce; the bulgogi quesadilla ($14), a classic Mexican favourite with a Korean beef twist; and the chicken enchilada ($12).
Last but not least: The aptly named Liquid Buffet is a daily event ($28 for girls, $35 for guys), offering free-flow beer and cocktails from 6 to 9pm. For Singapore, that’s insanely good value.
