23rd March 2018 by Expat Living 3 Min Read

Vegans and vegetarians, here is the list you’ve been waiting for! We know there are plenty of great vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Singapore, but what if you want to cook at home and not have to scour the aisles of Cold Storage, Giant or Fairprice checking the labels of everything? While you can stock up on fruit and veggie staples at these grocery stores, here are some other options for you.

Supernature at The Forum

1. Supernature

Head to the basement of The Forum shopping mall in Orchard and you will find this veritable vego haven. It’s a mini-mart where’ll you find such things as vegan cheeses and delicious pizzas to heat up at home, and treats like cookies and vegan ice cream. There’s also loads of organic produce, along with other general household items that are certified cruelty-free, and you can have all of this delivered to your door!

If you choose to venture out for a visit to Supernature, there is also a cafe inside serving drinks and snacks that’s nice for a quick break from shopping.

3. Ryan’s Grocery

While not solely vegan or vegetarian in it’s offerings, Ryan’s offers some incredible fresh produce including hard-to-find herbs and veggies. There are loads of organic options as well. This is a fantastic option for people with allergies, as you can find reliable foods that are free from the following: gluten, wheat, dairy, sugar, soy, egg, yeast and nuts.

The family behind Ryan’s Grocery have a son with allergies, and made numerous trips to Australia to source their product offerings. What began as a hunt for tasty food the whole family could share has now become a successful business in Singapore.

4. Better Breads & Spreads

Looking for breads made from whole-grain flours, without chemical preservatives? You’ll find a range of delicious bread at Better Breads and Spreads! If you’re looking to get some veggie goodness into your kids then this is the way to do it – check out the huge range of ‘Breggies’ made from 20-30% fresh vegetables and herbs in a 50% whole wheat and 50% unbleached flour blend.

There are also fruity and dessert breads, all of which you can pair with the selection of freshly made spreads. These are a great idea for school lunch boxes, or starters at your next barbecue. Spreads include hummus, olive tepenades, pestos, and vanilla almond butter (yum!), among others.

5. Friendly Vegetarian

This is a vegetarian grocery delivery service with local flavour. If you are looking for frozen options to keep at home, especially finger foods, vegan hot dogs, burger patties and ‘faux-meats’, then this is the website to visit. What we really like is the ‘legend’ that indicates on each item whether it is vegan, vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian or ovo-vegtarian.
