Dancing, crafting and more at this picnic for kids

Updated on 22nd March 2018 by Lindsay Yap |

Searching for fun things to do for kids? Tanglin Arts Studio (TAS) is organising its first-ever Teddy Bears’ Picnic on 18 March, aimed at ages two to seven. Here’s what the little ones can look forward to.

Tanglin Arts Studio dancing things to do
Got little ones that love to dance?

#1 Dancing

What’s a party without music and dancing? Get up on your feet and dance along as the TAS junior team performs popular kids’ songs. There’ll be plenty of jumping about, plus the little ones can learn some basic dance moves from the performers – you might just find a talented dancer on your hands!

#2 Story-telling

With everything from Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty to Toy Story and Cars, the kids will be well entertained and enchanted by these fairytales and modern classics. Little ones can also bring along their favourite book to share and read with the group.

#3 Face-painting

For some extra fun, head to the face-painting booth. You can choose anything from animals and mythical creatures like tigers, lions, fairies and butterflies to superheroes like Spiderman and Batman. It’s a photo op you won’t want to miss!

#4 Arts and Crafts

Get creative at the crafting station where little ones can draw, colour and even create their own storybook to bring home. Little girls in particular will love the “Decorate your own tutu” activity where they can make a one-of-a-kind tutu to wear. This a no-sew activity, with kids given colourful ribbons and decorations that they can use to embellish their new creations. It’s a great opportunity for some parent-child bonding as mums and dads can help their little ones to tie knots and measure the tutus.

#5 Cookie decorating

Who doesn’t love digging into some delicious cookies? This fun activity lets kids decorate and design their own baked goodies by adding icing, chocolate and sprinkles to the various vanilla-flavoured teddy bear shapes.

#6 Yummy snacks

Keep your active littles ones fuelled up with the tasty snacks on offer at the picnic. Dig into some buttery popcorn or pick up a sandwich if you need something a little more substantial. There’ll also be chips, water and juice for all. After the event, you can choose to head to the club’s restaurant and enjoy a lovely lunch on the terrace.

#7 Bring Teddy

Don’t forget to ask your littlies to bring their favourite teddy bear or soft toy to join in the fun!

About Lindsay Yap

Lindsay has an (un)healthy obsession with strawberries and a huge weakness for bags (who doesn't really?). When she's not pigging out on her favourite hawker food or catching up on sitcoms, she's dreaming of her next holiday!

How cute! Love this Easter twist on devilled eggs 🐣Thanks @expat_kitchen! Instructions below ✨ Full recipe on our site
.
.
.
.Instructions:1. Peel hard-boiled eggs. With a sharp knife, slice off a very thin layer from the base of the egg so it can stand. Cut a generous top off the egg, and set top aside. Using a small melon baller, scoop out the yolk carefully (be careful not to break the white part!).
2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine 10 cooked yolks and mash well with a fork. Add mayonnaise, Dijon, garlic powder and salt. Mash everything together until smooth. Transfer mixture to Ziploc or pastry bag and pipe generously into egg bases. Place top 1/3 back over the base and press down slightly to adhere.
3. For the eyes, poke through an olive with a plastic straw several times, then gently squeeze down the straw, and the little circles of olives will pop right out. For the beaks, thinly slice a few rings of carrot and cut each ring into sixths. Insert two olive spots for the eyes and two carrots wedges for the beak. Set chicks on a platter and garnish with noodles, or parsley or dill to give them that “free range” feel.
