Style Update: Fashion news and events in Singapore, April-May 2014

Read on for this month’s installment of shopping news, designer collections and fashion events here in Singapore.

We Heart Wallets
You use it all the time, so take some pride in your purse! See our top shopping picks in the gallery above.

Peplum Dresses
We love the peplum’s ability to flatter virtually every body type. In the same way as a dress in a solid colour will slim and lengthen your frame, one with a peplum that sits just an inch or two above your natural waistline will give you an ultra-streamlined silhouette.

Fashion Steps Out is Back
Orchard Road will officially welcome its Spring/Summer fashion season from Friday 4 April to Sunday 18 May, with many stores taking part in lots of cool events and promotions. The anticipated Orchard Fashion Runway will kick-start the six-week event on Saturday 5 April – Orchard Road itself will be turned into a giant catwalk showing the latest collections from local and international brands. Head here for more information and updates.

Club Monaco Spring 2014 Collection
Available in-store until June 2014, the new spring women’s collection from Club Monaco combines classic cuts with fresh pastel colours. The brand has also launched its inaugural men’s collection, showcasing bold, modern prints including florals and geometrics, along with a neutral colour palette. There’s even a capsule beach collection made up entirely of fresh white garments in various textures – crochet, veil and lace. #B1-41/47/48 Takashimaya

Competition – 1SOLE
Be in with a chance to win a Slightly Decadent package from 1SOLE, worth $257, which includes a custom-fit pair of 1SOLE shoes, a Swarovski Crystal interchangeable top, and a Slightly Decadent Swarovski Crystal interchangeable top. Three styles of shoe in one! Head here to enter.

Byzantine Beauties
The latest collection from Arizma, inspired by the culture-rich Ottoman and Byzantine empires of the Middle East, is crafted in hammered gold and silver. A prominent design theme is replica antique gold coins that were used for trading in bazaars, now transformed into delicate rings and pendants. For a more subtle coin design, opt for intricate coin and peacock earrings. Prices start from $500. #01-31 Parkway Parade.

On our Wish List: The Casati Collection
We’re head over heels with the new handbag collection by CH Carolina Herrera. With their structured shapes, soft leather feel and extravagant golden closures, they’ve definitely made it onto our wish list. Level 1 to 10 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Available until June 2014.

Sustainable Chic
H&M has just launched its latest Conscious Collection, made with more sustainable materials than ever: organic cotton, recycled polyester and Tencel – a biodegradable fabric derived from wood pulp. As for the collection itself, think bohemian luxe – feminine silhouettes and pastel colours mixed with rich prints and metallic accents. Prices range from $17.90 for a leather headpiece to $699 for a heavily detailed dress. 1 Orchard Building.

Photograph in Style
Tired of lugging around your camera bag in addition to your regular handbag? Combine the two instead with a new, ultra-chic camera bag by Aide de Camp. Unlike the usual bulky ones, ADC’s have been designed with attention to detail: compartments for cameras, lenses and more, leather trims and understated hardware (not to mention they’re also lightweight and water-resistant). We’ll be proudly carrying one of these around town and to events.

Style Hunter
Forget the catwalk, the shop windows and the fashion bloggers. Sometimes, the best place for style inspiration is out on the streets. Julia Blank roams the island, camera-in-hand, ready to snap expats who exude individuality and a style of their own.

Name: Ashley Corley: “I love to travel and to discover international designers.”
From: US
Trousers: Forever 21
Tank top: Elizabeth & James
Sandals: Balenciaga
Bag: Mulberry

Julia Blank loves it because:
‘Ashley has perfected this casual-chic look. Bohemian pants combined with a tailored top and vest give her look the right balance. Paired with a loose-fitting blouse, it could have made her look bigger on top. Layers of long, thin chains give the outfit a polished edge.’
