Sport is an integral part of school life at North London Collegiate School (Singapore) – the school’s goal is to involve, excite and motivate their students in physical activity. They do so through a vibrant, exciting programme of competitive and non-competitive sports activities. This will encourage maximum participation, individual aspiration, team achievement and personal excellence of sports in Singapore schools.
The role of sport at NLCS (Singapore)
NLCS (Singapore) builds on the rich history and heritage of NLCS (UK) by offering students what it describes as an inspiring and life-changing educational experience that will help them become successful, well-rounded and compassionate human beings.
Sports activities play a central role in the school’s goal of educating individuals to embrace challenges and take responsibility for shaping a better world. Sport develops students’ confidence and resilience through physical, technical and mental stimulus, and exposes them to teamwork and leadership opportunities.
Billy Molloy is Director of Sport at NLCS (Singapore); he says, “Our Sports Programme aims to discover and develop the potential in every student, commensurate with age and ability in a wide range of sporting activities. Participation in sports is an integral part of a student’s educational experience, and the schools provides varied and extensive sports opportunities for all students who wish to participate.”
Three ways students participate in sport at NLCS (Singapore)
To stimulate maximum participation, individual aspiration, team achievement and personal excellence, the school offers a vibrant, entertaining programme of competitive and non-competitive sporting activities.

#1 Co-curricular sports activities (CCAs)
Recreational and development sports opportunities are offered through the formal CCA programme, which is run over four seasons per academic year.
#2 Representative sports teams
School representative teams train during the formal CCA programme. This is either before or after school hours, depending on the sport and age group.
#3 Elite sports coaching
The school facilitates individual or small group elite coaching for students in specific sports activities.
State-of-the-art facilities for sports activities
Students have access to many facilities at the school. They include:

Popular sport choices
Some of the popular sports activities offered at NLCS (Singapore) include badminton, volleyball, netball, swimming, athletics and gymnastics.
Students who participate in sports that have fixtures are playing weekly. There are four seasons of fixtures for sports in Singapore schools, each lasting eight to nine weeks. Each team plays six to seven fixtures per season.
NLCS (Singapore) supports the growth of future potential athletes. The school provides exposure at various inter-school tournaments such as FOBISIA and ACSIS. This is in addition to internal House competitions.
Due to current restrictions, parents aren’t as involved as the school would like them to be. When restrictions are lifted, parents are welcome to be involved with various aspects of the sports activities. These include mentoring and volunteering opportunities.
