Singapore’s first salt room therapy spa

18th April 2022 by Zawani Abdul Ghani 2 Min Read

Pablo Blau is Singapore’s first luxury spa that offers exclusive skin treatments in a salt room environment that aims to mimic a salt mine or cave – only more luxurious. Their flagship outlet in Raffles City features a movie room and salt room therapy (also known as halotherapy) rooms equipped with special salt generators; the rooms are entirely coated with pharmaceutical-grade dry salt crystals.

This one-of-a-kind spa harnesses the power of salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, and fuses it with proprietary spa treatment methodology to improve efficacy; it takes as little as 45 minutes to witness results at Pablo Blau. Skin and body treatments are enhanced as the hypoallergenic environment works together with the anti-inflammatory properties of salt to provide added healing effects.

How salt room therapy works

Salt is universally known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Through osmosis, salt kills particular types of bacteria by drawing out water or fluid, which they cannot survive without.

In a salt room environment, the salt generator mimics the therapeutic effects achieved in natural salt caves by grinding and producing salt particles in the air. The atmospheric salt content and allergen-free environment are greatly beneficial to the skin and general wellbeing, including improving blood circulation and reducing inflammation.

This quote from Dr Norman Edelman, Senior Scientific Advisor to the American Lung Association, expands on the point: “When fine salt particles are inhaled, they will fall on the airway linings and draw water into the airway, thinning the mucus and making it easier to raise, thus making people feel better. Also, these environments are allergen-free and thus good for people with allergies affecting their lungs.”

The anti-ageing benefits of salt therapy

Pablo Blau’s specialised facials work to regulate salt and water balance naturally. They normalise the skin’s pH level, which serves as the foundation to repair and regenerate youthful, glowing skin.

Salt also helps to repair the skin’s natural defensive properties – and it strengthens the skin’s protective barrier without compromising its natural microflora and integrity. That’s not all; the salt generators produce ionised fine dry salt particles that are natural antioxidants to fight free radicals and signs of ageing. Coupled with Pablo Blau’s skincare treatments, combined with halotherapy, they make for a powerful anti-ageing boost, where serums and ampoules are better absorbed into the skin.

More than anti-ageing, salt therapy also has proven benefits in easing symptoms of and improving the skin conditions of those who suffer from acne, dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.

Salt room therapy and COVID-19

Due to a pandemic, a team of scientists at the University of Edinburg re-examined the effects of salt and how it may work by boosting cells’ antiviral defence when patients are affected by a cold. They surprisingly discovered that 95 percent of participants who had a cold and used saltwater to gargle and rinse their nasal passage experienced a shorter duration of illness by two days and a reduced intake of medicine. They also experienced other benefits such as easier breathing and better sleep.

Don’t miss! Until 31 August, enjoy a 60-minute Award-Winning Signature Salt Room Bespoke Facial at $69 (usually $390). The first 100 readers will also enjoy a free 40-minute customised eye treatment (worth $250) when booking. Book here!
