Last year’s cooling measures seem to be keeping the market stable; in the first half of 2012, only about half as many foreigners bought homes here. Further government measures seem unlikely at this stage, though some people are buying now – just in case.
The Singapore property market is kept going by Singaporeans’ apparent love of buying property, high liquidity and low interest rates; and preliminary Q2 figures show a 0.4-percent increase in private residential prices. Though buyers are seeking out value-for-money opportunities in mid- to high-end resale properties, new mass-market projects in the outer regions have also been doing well and these should boost figures in the months to come.
With a large number of new-builds coming onto the market during this second half of the year, we expect the sales market to remain stable and rentals to decline slightly. Happy hunting!
