This month, the EL team and readers come together to declare their must-have mascaras. Read on for the big reveal.
I love Chanel’s Inimitable in Waterproof Noir Black because it adds volume, and curls and lengthens effectively in just a few applications. The thick bristles make application very easy when you’re in a hurry. I usually use four to five strokes, and it stays put all day.
I’ve been using Masterpiece Max by Max Factor since I was about 18 and adore it. I can’t find it in the shops here, so I’ve tried out a few others in the last couple of years, but none compared to my old favourite. I now do a bulk buy in the UK, although you can find it online. From lengthening and curling to colour and non-smudge, I think it’s leaps ahead of any others I’ve worn.
I’ve been using Clinique’s High Impact Mascara for years. I love it because it lengthens and separates my lashes perfectly without any clumping, it’s allergy-free and the bottle lasts for quite a while.
I use Lancôme Hypnose in Brown over the Diorshow Maximizer Lash-Plumping Serum for more length and thickness, as I have very fine, fair, short lashes. This does the trick. At night, I’ll use the Diorshow New Look black mascara.
I absolutely love YSL’s Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking. I’ve used it on and off for about five years, and nothing seems to match up to it. It gives plenty of volume while also making your lashes impossibly long, it doesn’t flake, and it’s easy to layer for a dramatic effect. I tend to pick it up when going through Duty Free, as it’s not easily available in Singapore.
Clinique’s High Impact is an old-favourite that I always pick up at the airport, duty -free. It doesn’t clump, has a lovely sheen and doesn’t leave that smudge at the end of the day!

I use Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara because it adds length to my lashes, but on days when I want that extra something, I’ll layer on Maybelline Volume Express to add some length.
I love the Lancôme Grandiose Mascara, which has a unique wand to make applying it much easier. Tarte Cosmetic’s Light Camera Action is also perfect for those with sensitive eyes.

Clinique High Lengths is my absolute favourite. The wand is so much better than the traditional. It separates my lashes beautifully with no mess when I’m applying it to the corners, so you get the length and thickness without the clumping. I can’t find it locally, so I buy it when travelling, or online at www.sg.ozcosmetics.com
For everyday use, I love Urban Decay’s Cannonball Ultra. It’s waterproof and smudge-proof, so it’s great for women on the go. For special occasions, I wear Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill – it separates, lengthens and adds serious volume with not a clump in sight.
I like very black mascara, plus I like it to not cost the earth because I’m quite fastidious about regularly replacing it for a fresh tube. I think Max Factor Calorie 2000 is unbeatable in terms of coverage and value.

Watery eyes coupled with oily eyelids can make finding the perfect daily mascara a nightmare. MAC’s False Lashes Waterproof is light enough for daily use, does not clump and, most importantly for me, remains smudge-proof throughout the day.
