As it’s old favourite of ours, I took the children to Pasta Fresca’s new branch at Cuppage Terrace to enjoy a low-key family meal. There is alfresco dining under the new covered area, and also in the little Mediterranean-style indoor section where we chose to sit.
The chef recommended that I try his fresh homemade bresaola for my appetiser, a variation on regular carpaccio. It just takes a little longer to prepare; a few weeks in a light marinade, and the texture and taste is amplified. It was delicious and even the children loved it – along with their garlic bread, of course.
The children chose their favourite penne carbonara and managed to finish the substantial portion. I chose penne alla Rossini, an eggplant, tomato-and-garlic-based penne, with olives and large slithers of Parmesan to top it off, and it was delicious.
The cherry on the top of the meal was the house wine. It was the best glass of red I have had in years. The nose, texture and taste were exceptional and I had to buy a bottle to take home.
The tiramisu was the local version without alcohol and too sweet for me, but the crème caramel was good and the Italian chocolate ice cream was devoured in seconds by my daughter, so it must have been good. As always, Pasta Fresca provides a pleasant but casual venue where you don’t have to pay a fortune for quality Italian.
