Restaurant review: Oscar’s on Temasek Boulevard, Singapore

Conrad Centennial Singapore

If you’re a lady who likes to lunch, the impressive choice at Oscar’s buffet will make you wish you’d starved yourself before you came.

Apart from the beautiful and well-thought presentation of food, the sunny restaurant is comfortable and the staff and chefs attentive. As well as your typical array of fresh prawns, crayfish and sushi (we’re so spoiled in Singapore!), there’s a good variety of cooked fish that includes fried whole sea bass, assam fish and salmon steak. If you prefer red meat, the roast beef was succulent and, for curry lovers, the sweet potato curry warrants a double helping.

The fresh juice station is a lovely touch, as is the large salad station where you can have your salad mixed in a huge bowl made from a hollowed-out giant Parmesan cheese. The noodle bar is also wonderful; try the signature laksa or tom yum, which is spicy but not overly so.

Oscar’s has the best-stocked dessert station I’ve ever seen, featuring jars of cookies, fruit, ice cream with interesting toppings, and bite-size desserts. Small portions mean you can try a few things without feeling like a glutton, although walking out of the restaurant did eventually prove quite an effort.
